Driving down the freeway (as always, my car doesn't really see city streets), and a small rock hit the base of the windshield....thought nothing of it....woke up this morning, there's a 14-16 crack right down the middle (going upwards) of my windshield...sigh....hmmm....

Kinda pays to be in Mass when this happens, windshields are covered and replaced under our insurance policy with no out-of-pocket expense.

Does Arizona work similarly?

Regards

Yeah, it is out of pocket, but you know how they hide that into your insurance policy anyway, so its never really free, just nothing out of pocket....oh well...

Dirty roads **** me off. In south Texas it rarely rains. Drainage on city streets sucks. When it does rain craters open up. The local road crew rolls around and hot patches everything. Then it gets hot again and the patches start to come apart. There's debris everywhere...

They should have 'cracked windshield' as standard equipment on new cars down here. Sucks.

Sorry to hear about the damage. It can be fixed but that's not the point. Be glad your windshield took the rock instead of your front fascia or grill or hood or mirror or something else that would have been harder to repair. That's how I would look at it anyway. Sacrifice the glass.

I feel your pain! :-( I had my car 1 week when I got my first chip....very exciting I must say. Hit the windshield and ran like a son-of-a b$%ch. Nice foot long crack. Needless to say, I got it repaired. Was a sad day. Not as sad as when a piece of fencing material flew up and hit my front bumber as I was doing 80 down the freeway....but I digress.

Same here...had a chip i ddin't know about until I was driving home and all of a suden a 12 inch crack appeared.

I called safelite from a recomendation and couldn't of been happier.

200 bux installed and they come out to your house. I would definitely look at their site and see if you have one local.

Actually, mine broke like a few months in to ownership (of my '03.5 sedan) as well. Turns out that the factory didnt install the glass properly and it cracked on its own with stress and temperture change.

It was replaced under warranty after a quick examination at the dealership revealed that the cracked started from the installation point, and not from a foreign object.

A few months later, my brother in law gets a '04 sedan too... His windshield broke in 3 weeks, and he too got it done under warranty... For the same reason. Same crack at the same location... Who would'a guessed?

Yeah, I hear you...I had to replace my windshield in the first 6months of ownership also. Took a rock on the freeway, left a chip right in front of my eyes. No repair service would fix it because it was in my line of sight.
Oh well, at least I got a good deal on a new windshield.

Same thing happened to me.

Tiny little dot of a chip turned massive 14 inch crack within 2 days.

Call Safelite, they can get you a new one for $200.

Or

Go to the dealer and pay about 3x.

Even the dealer told me to go elsewhere for glass.
