05 6MT Sedan - Center console question

I picked up my 05 6MT sedan last week. Awesome car.

One question. I think I'm missing something (I'll post a picture tonight when I get home). The center console - right behind the shifter, not under the armrest - should there be a cupholder or something in there? When I slide back the opening, I have a storage compartment there, but there are some grooves in it, as if something should be in the back half of the storage compartment. Hopefully, you understand my explanation. If not, I'll post a picture later!

Thanx!

There should be two cup holders and a little slot towards the emergency brake (I think to hold very small items?). I put my small mailbox key in the small slot.

Thanx. I have one cupholder underneath of the armrest. There should still be two more in the center console? Are they attached, or are they separate pieces?

The grooves are for little plastic slide-in dividers that you can use to organize items. Not really "cupholders"... just pieces of flat plastic.

Yeah, they're actually square, so not "officially" cup holders I suppose. I'd have to go out to my car to see if it is detachable. I assume they are since you don't have them.

Either way I'm missing something, right? I need to tell the dealer what I need, it's two pieces of square plastic dividers, not actual cupholders?

I have an 05 5AT and mine are actually like cup holders.. they're, like, spring loaded so if I get a Big Gulp, the little cup holder part will fold down to accomodate a larger cup.. with it folded up, it has like the "cut outs" to hold, say, a water bottle or 12oz can snugly.. I dont know if that divider/cup holder thing is removable though..

Seems weird that the 5AT and 6MT would have a different "cup holder" thingy.. unless I'm reading this wrong..

The 6MT has the parking brake handle in this area. The AT does not, so the console is pretty different in the area (so are the location of the seat heater switches & flasher button). Mine has a rectangular area, slide cover, with a plastic divider I can put in the middle to make 2 squares.

center console reply

In my '04 MT sedan, I have two small square cubes beneath a slider opening. behind them, under the arm rest are two cup holders. a little inconvenient as there are, imho, too far back.

Also, the console armrest sits quite a bit lower, not high enough to actually even "rest" your arm on it, but low enough that it stays out of the way of your elbow during "spirited" shifting

The '03 6MT I test drove had no cupholders at all, so I'm "ok" with the cupholders being inconveniently located in the armrest (although they actually will not "hold" the cups in the event of the aforementioned "spirited" driving)

The cupholders, such as they are, in the 6MT plainly suck. Allow me to elaborate: They are terrible. I shall continue: They were clearly designed by the Japanese equivalent of engineering interns spending their summer away from the Japanese equivalent of community college only to hold tiny little cups of sake.

Ask me if I care. Go ahead. Ask me. My Altima had awesome Big Gulp-sized fat-boy American cupholders right behind the manual shifter. I could hold two of them at once if I so chose. The seats were also extra-wide for extra-wide, extra-flabby, extra-dimply American posteriors.

And yet, with all these advantages over the 6MT, do I still own the Altima?

No I do not.
