Just hit 501 Miles on a tank this week

As the title says, 501 on one tank of gas, I do about 90% freeway driving, however most of that is durring So. Cal. rush hour. The down side..... I needed 19.6 gallons to fill up. That works out to about 25.5 mpg. Not too shabby. It also set me back about $43 at the pump. I was driving on 87 octane for those that care.

Outstanding mileage but ACK!! on the octane. What made you decide to run the 87 and could you feel/hear a difference in your motor?

I have a 2004 auto sedan non sport suspension. I have tried 87 octane but find the car runs slightly better and gets maybe 1 - 2 MPG better with the 89 octane. I don't find that premium makes any difference in performance or mileage. However, I usually average 18.5 -21.5 MPG doing 2/3 hwy and 1/3 city. I95 can be stop and go but I always thought I would get better mileage, closer to maybe 24 or 25. Oh well, time for a diesel.

501 on 1 tank?????? HOW THE HE!! is that possible!!! You must baby that bad boy. As far as octane goes, I always found that throwing the Super in my cars (no matter what they were) I always got better gas mileage. The additional cost per tank basically evens out and if I can get an additional day of not hitting the gas station, all the better!

501 is impressive!! Do you drive in manual mode and short shift it?

Holy Sh_ _.....

How did you get mileage close to the EPA's estimated MPG of 26 !? I didn't think it was even possible. I drive 80% highway and only get 21-22 MPG. Any tips would be appreciated!! Is it a coupe or sedan?

I just recently drove from SoCal to Central Texas (1500 miles) and I averaged 27mpg according to my Nav. I was following a moving truck that was speed linited to 65, so cruise control was set. And that's with a Vortech SC!

I cruised home at 65-70 mph on the freeway for 20 miles, this is at uneven altitudes, a lot of big hills, I got 24.5 mpg according to the Nav.

I routinely get 23-24 mpg for the daily commute. On my trip up to Laguna Seca ... we cruised at an average of 70-75 mph and I got 26.x mpg. The entire day at Laguna Seca it was 8.x mpg, however

The above figures were reported by the NAV ... which I find to be optimistic by 1 mpg in nearly all cases (vs. manually calculation). YMVV.

I've hit just over 400 miles to a tank, could of kept going for a bit longer but the thought of running dry or worse ... over heating the fuel pump ... I pulled up to the nearest gas station. But Gosh ... 500 miles and 19.1 gl. fill up. WOW! Good to know.

btw ... klg, our tanks are ~20 gallons large. They are also identical for sedans, coupes and Zs.

Man I would've been squeezing *** big time. You almost ran out of gas there my friend.

Tempting fate or just didn't feel like filling up gas for the last 150 miles?

Hey Kim, no problem. I woudn't recommend shoot for for 500+ miles your next tank, however. I generally fill-up at around the 350 miles mark, which is already well into the 'warning light'.
