Vent Odor?

Has anybody been experiencing vent odor after using the A/C? I have allergies, so I have to use the A/C as much as I can. But when I turn off the A/C, a nasty "dirty sock" odor leaks out....It's not constant, but it's embarressing when I have guests in the back seats....Any solutions?

Re: Vent Odor?

Sounds like mold and mildew has crept into your system. Another source of odour could be your cabin air filter. Your ride must still be under warranty... take it to the dealer and let them sort if out. G/L

Re: Vent Odor?

Make sure that before you turn your car off that you put the system on vent only and let it run for 15-30 seconds before you turn the car off. This accomplishes 2 things...

*It gives the condensation time to drain down out of the system.
*It allows fresh air to enter the car even when parked.

I'm only passing along this information as I am by no means an expert with HVAC. Maybe you need to change the cabin air filter?

Re: Vent Odor?

Do you own a 90's Mercedes-they have the same issue. The air also feels slightly humid. Try turning the vent on as described above kinda works. It is a design flaw. I was told there is nothinf that can be done. BUT if others are not having the same trouble...I am left to wonder. Oh well more $hit to complain about next visit to the Dealer.

Re: Vent Odor?

I have the same problem from time to time. It is inconsistent but the A/C seems to get rid of the odor. This odor is pretty bad and smells like someone pissed in my car.

Re: Vent Odor?

I had the same problem, when I first turned on the A/C in the morning it would smell like dirty socks for a few mins then go away. But after driving the car for 3 months now, the smell has finally gone away. I think it was some sort of chemical they coated the AC with and it takes time for it to burn off.

Re: Vent Odor?

I have the same problem and have had it with my cars before this one too. As soon as you turn the air conditioning off and the vent on you get this humid smelly air. It's the most distinctive smell and doesn't smell like anything else. And I hate it.... yuck! Mine didn't do it last summer when I had just gotten it but it does now! Oh and the dash started squeaking when the air conditioning is on... this'll be a fun summer! Oh well, still love driving it! Let us know if you find a fix.
