If you search the site, you will find that the factory intake is a darn good CAI. The only issue is the baffles and resonators in the tube. Getting a Z tube and a K&N drop in seems to be the way to go. I just got a UT polished Z tube and a drop in K&N. Seems to respond better at high RPMs, but the sound at WOT is awesome. I think doing that and adding either a plenum spacer or a new plenum by Crawford or Kinetix would be your best bet if money wasn't an issue.

I went from the oem intake to the Injen CAI. At first the wonderfull induction howl was fooling me into thinking it was offering up more power. The reality is, is wasn't. So I pulled it off the car and sold it. Thinking that I could rework a K&N Typhon intake ment for the 350Z. I thought I could do better then the oem instake since the 350Z Typhon has a intake scoupe in the bumber. I ended up having to totally rework the intake to fix a ton of design flaws that K&N doesn't talk about. In the end however, it wasn't any better. Since I'd like to add on brake cooling duct's one of these days and the K&N intake plumbed where I needed the space, I pulled the Z Typhon off the car and I am now running the K&N panel filter with a Z-tube.
Let's not forget, the oem intake is well designed, living no room for the aftermaket to improve apon. This goes for intake temps too. No CAI has ever been able to pull in lower air temps that will amount to a difference in power production, so in fact bring in air that is actualy hotter (PopCharger).

...And the truth is, NO-ONE has dyno evidence of stock vs CAI vs z tube+K&N on the SAME car, so no-one (that I know of) can make a compelling argument either way. It's a sound mod after all. A difference of 5HP won't make a difference at the track either way. If you want numbers that make a difference, make a plenum mod, add a cat-back system, buy some cams.

Don't confuse CAI's with plenums, they are two completely different parts.

maybe you were referring to this:
On a 350Z, stock peak was 227, AEM peak was 228, and Injen peak was 235.
Not quite losses as you claim but the Injen was the best with a 7HP gain over stock. Again... 7HP isn't really gonna make a huge amount of difference and would probably be undetectable by most people... but there it is.
And of course these numbers are from a 350Z where the "stock" intake is much better than ours to start with - read: Z tube and no big resonators.
So.. as I said... get the one that looks prettier. Not even sure if the Injen CAI for the Z and the G are the same or not. If you want numbers slap on some cams.

Excellent, this is what I am talking about. Insightful information that saved me time and money. I was going to order the Injen CAI, but after reading this no thanks. Thanks for the great info.
