05 6mt sedan - steering wheel vibration and shimmy

Hi, I've had my 05 6mt sedan for a few months now and have 7k on it. What I have noticed since getting the new ride is that the steering wheel shimmies or vibrates noticeably when cruising between 60 - 75 or under hard acceleration.

I've had the wheels balanced 3 or 4 times now and the brakes have been inspected and there is no rubbing. Alignment is fine coz it drives straight as an arrow. Tires are ok in that no belts have shifted.

Could it be that the sport suspension just translates more road feel through the steering wheel? Would that be enough to make the wheel vibrate noticeably? If you let go of the steering wheel, you can actually see it move.

Do any other 05 6mt sedans have the same issue?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Make sure when wheel balance is done that it's done with wheels on the car. That way all moving parts are included in the balance.

Another source of shimmy and shake would be poor wheel alignment -- front and rear.

Poor wear and feathering on tires will cause shimmy and shake too.

Seen this before.

Bent wheel and warped rotors have been the cause in the past.

Not saying this is your problem - just something to consider..

I had the same problem. All tires balanced 3 times. Roadforce was still an issue. Suspension checked and checked again. The dealer finally swapped out my rims and tires and the shimmie was gone.

This certainly sounds abnormal. I don't have the sport suspension, but I can't imagine it shimmies and shakes. Bring it back until it is right.

Smile wheel balancing

My 2005 6MT is at the dealer as i write this. I was having the same problem from the time i picked the car up about a month ago. The wheel would shake above 60mph and was just not right. After a complete wheel balance, A roadforce wheel balance was done and i was informed last night that my right rear wheel was bent!!!!!!!! With 18" wheels and a tight sport tuned suspension, even a slight bend in the rear can cause a shake in the front. Luckily, the wheel was perfectly fine and therefore was not due to hitting anything, may have just been a bad wheel. Infiniti is replacing the wheel and i should have the car back today.

Thanks for all the comments. I will bring them up with the dealer.
