Infiniti Dealers are all ripoffs
Well, at least they didn't charge you for breathing their oxygen. j/k What happened to the old ways of taking care of customers? If you nickel and dime customers over stupid things like checking fluids, they are not gonig to come back for bigger ticket items.
Let's implement some logic here...
Jiffy lube or equivalent:
-low overhead, specialize in very basic service.(oil changes) Business model is to get customers in and out quickly. Corporate owned or franchised, thus standardized prices. Likely pay their employees minimum wage or a close hourly rate. They are the fast food stands equivalent.
Dealership:
-high overhead, can and would like to and do all types of service. Independantly owned, prices may vary. Business model is to sell you as much service for your car as they can and charge as much as they can. Employees are either paid a flat rate per job or on commission(employee gets a % of what they charge you).
They are the finer dining establishments equivalent.
I hope this provides some clarity and insight.

I little to no sympathy for people that agree to goods or services but do not fully understand the charges for the items of the goods or services.

The problem with the head unit is that whenever i play CD'S the left speakers dont work. The left speakers work with satellite, AM, FM, and tape but not with CD'S. The dealer ordered a new head unit to be delivered within 2 weeks.
Everything was fine until I saw the bill for the 22500 mile service. Mind you, this service only consisted of an oil change. Total bill $82.63. Labor charge alone was $48.95. This was the first time I had used the dealer for service and the only reason I let them change the oil was because it was convenient.
The service rep showed me that they checked the battery, refilled the washer fluid, checked the tire pressure, and disposed of hazardous waste.
Unf***ing believable. I will never use dealer to service car again.
Just wanted to vent. Of course $82.63 is not a lot of money, but $82.63 is too much money for a friggin oil change. ^$$&$*@#^$@^%

It's expensive, for sure, that's why I do most of my own services.

Fair enough rupdog. I didn't mean to personally insult you. I agree an oil change should not cost that much. But that doesn't mean I won't blame myself for paying out the ear for something I didn't check carefully.
I take my car to Infiniti for service, but I also think they're overcharging for what they do. Why do I do it? Because my company kicks in money for my car each month and I'm not as concerned as I might be if I were having to pay for everything out of pocket.
I think this message string is comparing two extremes. The Infiniti dealerships and Jiffy Lube. There are other options out there; namely reputable (independant) service shops who will take good care of your car. For example, I've been bringing my wifes Nissan Maxima to our local mechanic here in my little Seattle suburb. He's been in business for over 20 years, and allows me to stand next to him while he performs the service. He jacks the car up, lubes it, changes the oil and filter to whatever I want, tops off the fuel and rotates the tires for $29.99. The 30/60/90K mile service intervals are done for $199-$299. When I bring the car in, he logs into the Nissan service webiste, prints off the maintainance sheet for that particular service, and checks off everything that's required. He keeps an electronic copy and I keep the hard copy in my file. There is NOTHING Nissan can do to invalidate the warranty. There's a federal law that states that dealerships cannot monopolize the service intervals. If you have your checks done by a licensed mechanic who documents everything in line with Nissan's checklist, you're good to go. Period.
I'm not suggesting that you should go this route. For the most part, taking your car to the dealership is the easiest way to protect your investment for the most part. If you're loyal to your dealership and have a problem down the line, you're very likely to be taken care of by them. At the same time, Nissan, Infiniti, Acura, Honda, Toyota, and Lexus make very reliable cars. If you're taking your baby in for inspections per the owners manual, you're unlikely to experience problems. Just don't feel obligated to take your car to a dealership. There are many good options that far exceed the level of service you'll get from Jiffy lube.

I think your overreacting here. $80~ is cheap for what they did for your car. The standard 15K service is $349. Aside from the standard checks it really only consists of an oil and cabin filter change. Do I think it's overpriced? yes!! while I can do all the maintenance on my car, while under warranty I prefer to have it done by a dealer or a verifiable source so that there is no finger pointing when it comes to warranty work.
Realize you got a free rear brake job. Most other manufacturers would tell you to take a hike

You know, I was reading this thread and thinking "my dealer is exactly the same way" and when I saw you go to Pepe Infiniti as well I had to respond. They are HORRIBLE about this. You absolutely need to specify exactly what you want them to do. I'm ok with the doing all of those crazy checks at the big services but trying to get $70 for an oil change is ridiculous especially since they send you an advertisement for a $39 oil change including all the same checks. They say those are only good between "standard services". C'mon!
