Better to bump an old thread than make a new one IMO.

Robin - all dealerships are different. Some are shady, some are trustworthy. Nissan dealerships can work on Infiniti's and are usually more cost-effective if you NEED to go to a dealership. Myself, I only go to the dealership for recall/warranty work.

If you can find a local-to-you independent mechanic that is familiar with Nissan/Infiniti/import vehicles, you can save plenty in labor charges for routine maintenance/scheduled service. My local Infiniti dealership charges ~$120-135/hr for labor whereas my local shop's hourly rate is more than 40% less than that.

Also, for any little questions you have about your G35, you can post up in this thread for more eyeballs:

My cousin made the mistake of taking his out of warranty Benz to the dealership, cost his right around $200 for an oil change including oil. We live and we learn, just be happy it wasn't too expensive

Peter to the rescue!! And to add to what he said Robin, Nissan can perform all work on the G except for warranty and recall work. You have to go to Infiniti for that.

Lol I got some cliffs from the original post:
1) OP went to the dealer for some misc warranty repair.
2) OP was due for an oil change so he told them to just go ahead and do it.
3) OP did not ask for price before authorizing said oil change.
4) OP was mad because it cost more than he thought it should.

FAIL.

Thanks to Blue Dream and Peter! We already have a decently fair Nissan dealership, and will keep asking re: independents. :-)
