Good or Bad for '05 G35x??

I went to the track in New Hemshire last friday and ran my best 1/4 mile in 14.79. I did 4 runs and my average was around 14.8. Can you guys give me some feed back and tell me if that is a good or bad time for me to run on that car.

Thanks

Sounds a tad high. Was your gas tank full, spare tire in the trunk, etc etc?

Did you brake torque to start?
If it's not broken in yet, your times will improve.

What you mean by brake torque start??? If u mean just holding down the break and giving it gas and then dropping the break and flooring, then yea i did that. Is there another way of doin it??

Not a bad time for a bone-stock G35X !

Tips: No spare/tools/crap in glovebox and 1/4 tank of gas will make you faster due to less weight. Make your runs in MM mode and you should cut another tenth. VDC OFF!

Sounds good to me ! I have an 05x I need to get to the track.
If you use Manual Mode, what's the ideal shift point=-?

How does the VDC being off, in an X, help in a launch? Doesn't being AWD make it moot point...no?

My understanding is that the traction control will go so far as to brake (not break) to maintain no wheel spin. Admittedly w/ the 25/75 launch split that is less likely but possible.

On some of the "family-run" tracks (which is a nice way of saying poorly-maintained) I break traction on the 1-2 shift. This is because the car is in RWD at this point. With VDC on, it not only switches power to the front, but works its magic(evil?) by retarding timing and possibly applying brakes.

I run in MM mode from the start. Depending on how fast your tranny is shifting (ground wires, recent reset, etc..) you want to pop the 1-2 gear change at around 6100 so it shifts right before fuel cut (~6400 IIRC). For the 2-3 an 3-4 shifts (you will have a third shift with the lower-geared "X" car) I wait until almost 6300 before nudging it into the next gear.
Another tip: air up your front tires to 40-45 psi for less rolling resistance.

I have made a couple of runs in SNOW mode.

They were within a thousandth or two of the regular runs, so I don't bother now.
