Hydraulic Hood Lifters

Does anyone know if there is a way to install hydraulic lifters for the hood? It really sucks that it's not standard. Even Honda Accords and Hyundai Sonatas have them!

I think Hondas and Hyundais should be in the same category!

Be careful, aluminum hoods bend real easily.

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

I'm in under my hood every day tinkering, tuning, checking, modifying, and believe me I'm so P'd with that stupid rod. One of these days I'm gonna install those Hood lifters and rejoice.
My Max had them and they were great, but not on G

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

I second that! I had these on my TL and it's a benefit not having to work around the rod. When you get accustomed to not having a rod, it's seems so silly why manufacturers don't all use the hydralic lifters.

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

Personally, I'd rather have the hydraulic lifters on the trunk, with no goosenecks to get in the way of a full load. Oh, hey... we have those and the Accord/TL doesn't.

Here, here! Also, at least our tail lights don't look like they've been hit with an [i]UGLY STICK!

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

well, the hydraulics on one of my family friends' ES300 became so weak that the hood continuasly falls on top of him while he's working on the engine.... not sure if it's just an individual case...

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

They do that to keep the weight of the vehicle down so those of us who like to speed can go faster. It's not amatter of being cheap, but rather a matter of being light!

Saab uses hydraulic hood lifters that extends to the end of the hood to avoid bending it. This is what Infiniti should have done for the G.</p>

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

Quite frankly, if they have to cut corners to get us a great car at a great price, I can deal with the hood rod. Before hydraulic hood lifters, I'd like to see memory mirrors, power lumbar support, rain-sensing wipers, a passenger seat with the same level of power controls as the driver seat, and a sportier automatic. Until I get those, hood lifters are way, way down on my "to gripe about" list.

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

Funny, my old 1996 Maxima had hydraulic lifters, but the dang things went out after 2 or 3 years. Those stinkin' things cost about $150 or more to replace. I am not surprised that Nissan saw fit to just use an old-fashioned metal rod with the G.

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

Ryoken: I agree with you 100%. The prop rod is such a minor thing compared to the other items you have listed. Unless you are under the hood of your car daily, it really does not matter if it's a hydraulic or prop.

Re: Hydraulic Hood Lifters

Yea, but it kinda sucks when you show off the engine to friends and have to fiddle around with that crappy hood prop rod.
