Strange chime on exit of car?

I have had my G35 AT for about a week and had a strange occurence the other day. I had just pulled into my garage and heard the engine fan just kick into high gear as the engine was fairly warm from the drive home. When I turned the car off and exited, I heard a rapid continous beeping sound for 3-5 seconds as I was walking behind the car. I opened the passenger door and started the car on again thinking that I had done something wrong upon exit. I then turned the car (completely) off and everything was OK. What I think is that I did not turn the iginition to the completely off position. The only thing is that when I try to recreate this situation, I get a nice slow, three beep chime to alert me that I did not turn the key all the way off - not the rapid, almost squeeling chime I got before.

Has anybody had anything simliar like this happen?

From what I know, you'll get various "beeps" if you exit the car and:

1. leave the ignition switch in the accessory position
2. leave the lights on
3. leave the Inteli-Key FOB in the car.

Of course I'm still trying to learn the distinct beep sequence for each one of these.

About a week ago I had the Inteli-Key FOB in my briefcase, and the briefcase was on the floor by the back seat. On the way home I stopped to grab dinner ... at Taco Bell no-less ... and when I got out I left my briefcase in the car. I no sooner exited and was standing next to the door and the car beeped at me a lot ... reminding me the Inteli-Key FOB was still inside. So maybe this was what you experienced?

Yeah, I had the int key in my pocket and the lights were not on at the time. The noise seemed to be coming from the engine area? So far I have not been able to recreate the noise.

This just happened to me when I left the interior dome light switched on.
didnt think anything of it until I went back outside to get firewood for the evening and saw it on!
Pretty smart engineering Id say!

I have the I-key and mine does that once in a while. It usually does it if i get out of the car with the i-key in my pocket and the engine still running. It's rapid fast series of beeps.

Once in a while it has done it with the car off, so no idea what it is

doesnt seem like anything serious, those alerts are typically reminders of something you might have left on or maybe like mustang5L5 said... but i wouldnt worry.

It might be the sound of the self destruct sequence being initiated.
