Question EZ way to change the oil filter?

I changed the oil in my "G" this morning. Yes, I got it all over my arms, the floor and anything else that was laying around collecting dust. No problem at all draining the crankcase but changing the filter was a pain in the tool box.

I was able to remove and replace it (without dropping the plastic undershield) by using a cup wrench and a universal fitting on a long extension.

Cleaning up the mess only took a few minutes and I'll certainly do it again.
My question is: Has anyone found a good/easy way to change the filter??
Thanks

Why don't you just drop the undershield? Then it's no sweat and clean. My $0.02.

I've found it easiest to drop just the back end of the cover allowing easy access to the filter and drain plug.
For me it was too messy leaving the cover in place.

I actually cut away just enough of the shield to get a good hold on the oil filter. I haven't noticed any adverse effects yet.

I have considered doing this also. The problem I see is that as your taking off the filter it tends to dribble all over the place. usually I have my pan under it to catch it. with jsut the small hole in the underbody diffuser, you run the risk of getting it all over the insed only to drip out for days later.

Personally, I just cut out a larger hole in the diffuser as well.

You've probably changed the coefficient of drag on your car from 0.27 to 0.2701. That's going to cost you 0.001 mpg.

I open up the back of the pan guard and let it dribble into my pan before fully removing. There is always a little mess but it's not too bad.

Thumbs up Advice

Thanks guys.
I appreciate the feedback. I'm gonna do the undershield modification. Just cutting out a wee bit of that part cannot affect anything that I will be aware of. How much could it possibly change my coefficient of drag while I'm stuck in Atlanta traffic??
