replace a blown tire or buy 5 new ones?
Today I noticed a nail stuck in the right rear tire (original Goodyear Eagle RS-A) of my '05 X. I put some soap on it and saw it was leaking a teensy little bit, but I feel better knowing my tires don't any crap stuck in them.
I took it to a tire place and they told me they couldn't fix it due to the puncture location. I couldn't figure out whether I wanted to replace it, so for now I have my (full-size) spare on.
My question is: replace the eagle for $155 from tire rack (+ install), or buy 5 new ones (avon m550 since I've read good things here). I could probably sell the four good eagles since they only have 1900 miles on them.
Suggestions? I'm also going to try a different tire place to see if they can fix it since that's the most economical thing to do
As a side note, i think I'm cursed
My windshield was cracked by a rock at 1100 miles but was replaced the next day free of charge thanks to insurance.

I would use the spare full time as it is the same tire I suppose as the other 3. I would get a spare tire with the type tire you want for your replacments when the Goodyears go. When they do, get 3 more and use the Goodyear as a spare. With only 1900 miles on the tire it is a shame to get rid of them.
I like Corgidog's idea but would suggest a slightly different approach. Keep the full sized spare on the car and get a used tire for the spare. Do you really need a brand new tire in the trunk as a spare? I would put a serviceable tire on and keep it as your spare. Who knows what brand of tire you'll want when it comes time to replace all four. I have 13k miles on my Michelins and expect to get another 15k out of them. I have the original Goodyear RSA in the trunk and I don't expect to use it unless I puncture. If I can't repair the flatted Michelin, I'll bite the bullet and buy two new Michelins.
