Dealer Can't Change Key FOB Mode
Dealer Can't Change Key FOB Mode
Took my G35 sedan in for my first service this week. Requested the dealer change the key fob to mode 4 (visual indicator only on both lock/unlock) and handed him the page from the manual that explained the setting. He went to talk to his "master" technician to see if it could be done. He came back and said they could only change the 2003, not the 2003.5. Said there was a change made and they couldn't do it on the .5 model. Is this B.S.?
Also, I asked if they could change it so one press on the unlock button would unlock all doors (instead of just the driver door then pressing again for all doors). Was told they couldn't do this either. I didn't have any print out of the unlock setting, but thought I read here it could be changed. Anyone know for sure if either can be done on the 2003.5 model?
If of any interest - other items fixed were: replace both visors as they would not stay pressed up against the wind shield and kept popping straight down; replaced woofer amp because it buzzed even when radio was off; installed 3 grommets in trunk roof liner that were missing. Washed car even though I told them not to (damn it).
Overall, I am really enjoying the G35. This is a great car and so much more fun to drive than my '90 Q45 that I traded in, although I did like that car too.

Re: Dealer Can't Change Key FOB Mode
you mean just turn the horn off when you lock unlock? If so, you can do it yourself. If it is something more complex than that, i apologize but I changed my 2003.5 at the dealer when I picked it up so the horn doesn't sound
just follow the steps in the manual

No, it's not a user change. This is for mode 4 that I understand only the dealer can do. Lock = flash twice, unlock - flash once. I already turned the horn off and it flashes when I lock it. I want to see it flash on unlock too and that is the mode 4 setting.
Re: Dealer Can't Change Key FOB Mode
ConejoKYLE is correct. This mod can only be done with the Consult-II device. I had this done to my 2003 G35 last year fall by a service technician. In fact, mine was the first one they did.
I can't see why the same mod wouldn't work for the 2003.5. So I'm inclined to believe your service technician may be mistaken.

I'm inclined to think your dealer is mistaken, but who knows. Suggestion: 'phone another dealer and get their advise.

Re: Dealer Can't Change Key FOB Mode
I just purchased my 2003.5 beginning of May. We changed our FOB to do exaclty what you're asking right there. All you have to do, stand outside the car and hold down both the lock and unlock button simultaneously for 3 or 4 seconds. That should do the trick, you'll see just the lights flash and the horn will be silent. You do the same thing to change it back to the honk mode. It should work fine.
Unfortuneatly, most dealership sales people, don't have a clue about the vehicles they sell. I know this was the case at the dealer we purchased from. I was the one telling the sales person the specs on our car. Even at the BMW dealer, I knew more about their cars than the salesman did, and they go to special training. Go figure. Good luck. It should work.

muuvova: That switches between Modes 1 and 2. He's already in Mode 2, but to switch to a different mode, you have to have the dealership program it. The difference between 2 and 4 is the single parking light flash on unlock.
A side note: If you do get the dealership to reprogram it, do NOT do the 3-second trick to switch modes.. it'll toggle back to 1 or 2, and you'll have to take it to the dealer again to get it back to 4. (Not from personal experience, from another poster on this board.)
