Sunroof residue
Sunroof residue
Whenever I wash my car I end up with some sort of residue running from the front corners of the sunroof down to the windsheild. Has anyone else experienced this? I can see it even before I dry the car....is it soap or could it be something from the sunroof itself?
Wow, this forum is great. I washed my new Garnet Fire/Wheat G35X the other day and also noticed a petrolium (not sticky but oily feeling) like residue that was on the painted metal surface surrounding (especially noticable around the corners and back corners in particular) the sunroof molding.
I thought perhaps it came from my leather shamois (not sure if I spelled that right) so I was going to wash it again, but hadn't got around to it until I saw this post.
Anyone else experienced this and know what it is and if it goes away soon?

I get a little runoff from the dressing I put on the sunroof seals. No biggie. It only shows up after a rain/wash, and with the amount of wax I keep on the car it washes right off.
Haven't seen it lately. I wonder if that means it's time to re-dress the seals? hehe..

GeeWillikers - What do you mean by dressing the sunroof seals? And is that something you do on a new car?
Also, after seeing this post I decided to do some more searching to see if anyone else is experiencing this, and found the following quote from a post titled, "To RainX or Not to RainX...".
I've attached the quote from IMNOHERO for anyone to comment on. I hope IMNOHERO sees this and weighs in if he's still experiencing it.

Partly because of wiper hop, which only seems to happen after the stuff starts to wear off a little. If you keep your "rainx" new and fresh, it's not really a problem. It seems partly due to the wiper blades...teflon blades hop really bad on rainx'd windows. Other types of rubber hop less.
Other reasons I don't like rainx (and similar products)...
Once it's on, it NEVER comes off, not completely.
It oozes off the windows and onto the paint, leaving oily looking marks. (like the dealer rainx'd my sunroof, now every time I drive in the rain, I get streaks all across my roof)
To me, it's not any better than a clean window and good wiper blades.
