You can install just the springs.

It's a good idea to install stiffer struts along with lowering springs. The lower height of the springs might allow the strut to bottom out in its range of movement under extreme conditions. A stiffer dampner will be more difficult to bottom out. And since you're taing apart the suspension to install the springs you might as well upgrade the struts if you have the funds available.

IM), if you're going w/aftermarket springs, you need aftermarket shocks/struts too.

The struts and shocks from stock sport suspension are made by Tokico. So in essence they are aftermarket from the start.

You have no option's concerning aftermarket shocks or coilovers do to the fact that your X uses a different front suspension design. You can use aftermarket lowering springs. Keep in mind that your car is supposed to ride .4" higher then RWD sedan's, you may get a greater amount of drop if you do use aftermarket RWD sedan springs. We do have a few member's with a G35X that have installed lowering springs.

Well,......they are spec'd by Infiniti and not by Tokico's R&D staff. Plus those specs include cost cutting realities that compromise what they are able to deliver to your driving experience, meaning their is ample room for aftermarket offerings to deliver a much better product..

The D-specs have larger piston diameters, larger bodies, are double adjustable and feature vastly superior valving that when experienced first hand will be one item that you do not have to search for reason's why you paid money for them. I've helped two different member's install them on their G35's, they are well worth the cost.

Will there be any detrimental effects if aftermarket springs are used on the X?

Depends on what springs you are using. Linear or progressive? Little drop or big drop? Stiff or soft spring rates?

Hmm. What suspension does you sedan have?

Sedan prokit's were R&D'd on a non sport sedan. But that's not to say that even when paired with sport suspension shocks that you won't get more yawing and pitching then if you'd made a different spring choice.

I'm contemplating on using the Eibach Pro Kit, which I believe is progressive. I don't know much about springs and how they affect performance, but I'd like to lower the X by about 1-1.5". I don't want to compromise the ride quality. This will be in conjunction with a set of 18 wheels that I plan to get (when I get my G in a few months).
