Is your 05 6MT making a noise when you down shifting or reduce the speed ?

I got my G35 6MT 2 weeks ago. It is a very nice car but there is a little problem. My G35 is making a high pitching noise. It does not happen all the time but some times when I reduce the speed or down shift it occurs. The Dealer told me that happens because Infiniti designed a new transmission, and all 2005 G35 6MT make this high pitching noise. Does anyone have the same problem like my car? At the same dealership I drove another 6MT and that car did not make any high pitching noise. Is this true that they all make this noise as the Dealer is saying? It is hard for me to tell since mine does not do it all the time. Please let me konw.

You know the more I think about this thread I more I think about the differences between the 6 speed and the Auto... I do not think you can have a true sports car without it being a stick.. Sure, the auto is "sporty" but TO ME, it is just not as much fun.
Or course some 1/4 mile cars are autos, but they are not the same automatics that are in the G35, they have a 3500 or higher stall convertor to get Manual like launches..

I like to go on the on ramp and keep it in 3rd gear and it stay there and then downshift if I want or wind it out...

Now, I think there is nothing wrong with the Automatic G35's, I drove one when mine was getting serviced, I just think it is not for me right now.. 6 months I bet I am tired of shifting gears and willing to loose some of the sport for convience(SP) But for now, my 4 door g35 6MT is the funest car I have ever owned...
I owed a 97 Twin Turbo Supra for 3 years, sold it 3 months ago, it was an Auto, did 11.9 in the 1/4 mile, it was faster than hell but not as much fun as my G35..

Me too, and I do it all the time in my 5AT.

It's pretty clear that the 03/04 5AT sedans are making the same power as the 280hp coupes and 05 5AT sedans.
Because when it comes down to it, the performance of these cars are close enough to call it a drivers' race.

The 03/04 6MTs were given "something" to make them near equal to the coupes. That "something" is also in the coupes and the 350z's. What exactly, I don't recall. I think it had something to do with the valve timing. I'm really not sure though. I've read it in both forums many times.

Also, the 5AT has a higher drivetrain loss so it's putting less hp to the wheels. Again, there have been tons of dynos on this and other forums showing this.

Does it really matter which is faster? The MT has always been about control, direct feel, and instant throttle response. I also think it has a much higher fun factor since it requires skill. In an AT, you just stomp on the gas - anybody can do that. I recently bought a 6mt because of the fun factor. It's a pain in traffic and frustrating at times because I lack skills but it's so much fun. I usually drag out of bed late every morning but not today. I was up early because I couldn't wait to shift gears and improve my skills.

My favorite MT moment is a slow 90 deg turn where you shift to 2nd and gun it mid turn, wind it up, then slam 3rd.

I went on a road trip this weekend driving an automatic vehicle. It was the most uncomfortable experience in traffic. Personally the automatic killed my leg, I can drive much longer in traffic with a stick because it requires both legs and both don't get as tired as one. Especially when the one is holding down a brake pedal the entire time.

no you wont hurt your engine by rolling to a stop in neutral. But for safety reasons I would not do that. If you are at a stop and feel the need then pop it into neutral and back into D when the light changes. I personally dont have a problem keeping my foot on the brake for a few minutes while at a light. The short time that the light is red wont hurt the transmission. I was just stating that while the tranny is in gear it builds heat compared to neutral.

Even if the gearing and engines are the same then the manual transmission car should be lighter and more powerful. As it stands the 05 manual transmission car has a theoretical 20 more HP at the crank and it has a less lossy transmission. It stands to reason that there is no way the 05 auto could keep up with the manual transmission car in any acceleration test unless one of the cars was not driven to its full potential or the conditions were not the same.
On thing that all of you have forgotten, or maybe you didnt think about is that there may be a bit more loss in torque and HP on the 5AT but a lot of that is made up in shift times.. the 5AT (or most ATs) shift in about 1/100th of a second and NEVER miss a shift. The shift speed and internal clutch plate pressure can be increased with valve body mods or shift kits and adding higher stall speed torque converters make the AT the transmission of choice for many drag racers

Does anyone else see the logic (or lack of it) in this statement????

First to start it off, it's good to know that it's ok to pop it into neutral at red lights although I swear one of the g35driver members once said it's not good. I forgot that person's name. The reason I wanted to do it is that's how I've been driving manuals. As soon as I see the red light ahead of me I pop it to N and let it glide to a stop. That's just a natural reflex. Yeah, most people say it's not safe (touch wood but been doing that for as long as I've been driving manuals). You just have to be a little more alert when you pop it into N.

As for the logic that Nickk6 said, I agree and disagree. He might be a bit exaggerating but I also took a road trip this weekend and yes I totally agreed that my right leg gets tired from constantly holding the brakes. I've always driven manuals and this is my first automatic car. Yes, it's tired shifting, clutching in traffic but so does holding on the brakes with your right foot during traffic.
