Just got an 05 G35x Sedan..Some questions

Hey whats the deal. I just got an 05 G35x Silver/Black, with nav, splash guards, and pretty much everything except satellite radio.

I have a few questions for the more experienced G owner.

1) I think my windows are misadjusted. Whenever the window is fully up, the bass from the speakers makes it rattle. If you lower it about 1/16th of an inch the rattle goes away. Is this a common problem and can I have my windows realigned under warranty?

2) Is scheduled maitenece free? What about brakes? Are they covered under warranty?

3) Will 19" wheels from a coupe fit my 05 sedan without rubbing?

4) Where is the best place to buy a Siruis radio kit and how hard is it to install. Are there any DIYs? Is the car prewired for satellite radio?

5) My car is leased and I love the exhaust sound. Is there any relatively inexpensive yet effective way to amplify the sound of the exhaust?

an air intake such as the K&N Complete Cold Air intake, or the like...or if your cheap, the Z-tube adds quite a bit to the sound. I have the K&N and like it alot. There are some other nice big name air intakes (like stillen) but they run like $280-350 range

I have an 05x and already have the following:

1) rear doors with rattling noise (this is on TSB)
2) center console squeaky noise when braking
3) rearview mirror shaking (most noticeable on highway driving)
4) gas tank issue (fixed by dealer)

I am bringing car in on Monday for issue#1. Will probably also mentioned to them about issue# 2 (this wasn't bothering me before but it is now) and issue# 3 that just arised the last few days.

my dear friend mikee,
i dont have all those problems as you but probably will soon anyway. i do have the issue #3, and phily's highway its like a jucebox when traveling on that highway.
the tsb isnt gona do much, neither will the service. from my experience when i first brought in the car for #3, i was not able to reproduce the rattling for the guy to hear it. but after a few bass loaded song he was able to hear it. understand he heard it but waisted 2 hours on TRYING to fix it. when i got my car back lil over 2 hours later, rattle was still there and got a few tiny barely visible scratches on my steel covering the transmission. o ya and i got a carwash out of it. to sum it up it cause more troubles bringing it in.

I also had the rattling on the rear windows when theey were raised so I put a small strip of foam in the window channel to force the window to close tightly and the noise is gone. I was not thrilled to let anyone take apart my doors just for that. I was worried about other problems caused by the repair.

I'll take a shot at this one. I bought XM from Grubbs Infiniti and did my own install. You don't have to get near the dash or head unit. Just peal back some trunk liner, plug in the receiver to the prewired cable that's sitting there waiting to be connected, and install the antenna on the roof (routing the wires along the rear window and down into the trunk and the receiver). It's a two-hour install, if you're reasonably handy.

You can complicate matters by doing an interior mount for the antenna but I stuck with the recommended roof top location.

From what I've heard, the Sirius receiver/antenna is comparable to the XM unit.

That’s why I try very hard to never bring my car to anyone to be worked on or serviced. A squeaky door or rattle is just the type of job for a rookie mechanic. The dealer is not going to give this job to their top mechanics, or in other words, the people that really know your car inside and out. Like you said, bringing it to the dealer usually causes more problems.

Same goes for the simple oil change. The rookie mechanics get that job. In the past, I’ve had my oil changed at the dealer or some chain, and on more than one occasion they screwed up the job. Either they didn’t put the oil cap back on or they filled the engine incorrectly (too little or too much oil). Oil changes take about 30 mins. at home. You probably waste over an hour to have the dealer change your oil when you include driving to and from the dealership. Plus, for the same cost the dealer charges, you could be putting in Mobil 1 synthetic instead of the dino oil the dealer uses.

The nice part about today’s low maintenance breed of cars is that aside from changing the oil, there isn’t much needed. Even putting on new brake pads and rotors is pretty simple. Rotating tires just takes time and very little mechanical ability. However, I have seen dealers over torque the lug nuts before. That’s a no-no. Spark plugs are probably good for 100K miles or so. Did I miss anything?

And lastly, I can’t stand the BMW “maintenance included” packaging on their vehicles. They try to sell against their competitors that BMW maintenance is free for the first 50K miles when it’s just buried into the vehicle pricing. They make a killing on this because their vehicles do not require much maintenance in the first 50K miles. I’d rather see their vehicle pricing drop a little more and make the maintenance an option for folks that want to purchase this. As stated above, I’d much rather do my own maintenance.

the only area that rattles in the car for me is where the infiniti clock is, that cover over the area where the clock is along with the climate display is what squeeks and rattles all the time, I settled for a ghetto fix and stuck a thick piece of paper in one of the edges which kinda works. However my buddy's g35c has some CRAZY squeeking going on in the back wheels, I can almost hear it like 2 car lenghts away when we are on the road, now that noise would drive me insane!!
