Just Traded 05 Auto for 05 6MT !!!
Instead of trading the G for an STi, I thought a smarter move to maintain image and get more performance would be to swap for a 6MT. So I took the plunge this weekend and traded in my 05 Auto (premium package, navigation) with 9,000 miles for a brand new 6MT (premium package only). I was amazed that the dealer gave me the same trade in value for my car that he charged me for the new car, so it ended up being a straight up trade. I obviously gave up the navigation, but the brand new car with 6MT and sport package I got in return was worth it. It felt like a very fair deal.
Needless to say, I'm very happy with the performance of the 05 6MT compared to my Auto. The driving experience has been greatly enhanced with the extra "punch" and the ability to row my own gears. I can't wait to experience the 7K redline once I break her in!

Hey, if both parties are happy with the trade the, it's a good deal. The dealer probably figures that since the 6mt sedan without navigation has a lower msrp than an auto with navigation, he can still make profit by selling the used car and keep a happy customer.
You gave up your navigation for a day-to-day performance gain that can only be felt at the track? Lots of folks here with experience in both cars say the 5AT feels faster in the day-to-day than the 6MT, and is smoother. I know you gained the ability to 'row-your-own' and if that's what you were looking for though all this then SWEET! (dude)..
I find it a bit odd that you never mentioned your desire for a manual in your original post, but rather that you were seeking the 'raw performance and power' of the STi. You definitely didn't get that by going with a 6MT G. True, you're a hair or two faster than the 5AT, but you're definintely not generating STi performance or handling numbers.
But okay.
Image? What image are you referring to? Looking at your arsenal of past cars and reading your posts, I can't help thinking that you're trying to define yourself by your car. I bought this car because I liked it's specifications and features, not because of the 'image' I thought it presented.
As long as your happy and you didn't get raped by the trade, good for you - CONGRATS!

Wow.. so the list goes:
2005 6MT G35 Sedan
2005 5AT G35 Sedan
2005 Acura RSX Type S
2004 Honda Civic Si
2000 BMW 540i
2002 BMW M3
2003 Acura CL Type S
2001 BMW 330ci
2001 Acura Integra Type-R
2000 Acura Integra Type-R
1998 BMW M3
1999 Honda Prelude
1999 Honda Civic Si
1998 Acura Integra GSR
1994 Honda Civic DX
Thats 15 cars in what couldn't have possibly been more than a 10 year period, meaning you have yet to go even a single year without getting a new car. Thats either complete B.S. or you honestly have a problem that I would have checked out.. I'm leaning towards BS, since I cant imagine why anyone in their right mind would go from an M3, to a 540i, to a Civic.. Don't even tell me you are married.

Great turn of events! You'd have to read the related post to see the history of everybody weighing in on the car-buying habits.
I like the decision ... it's definitely no STi, but rowing your own gears adds to the fun factor, and this was a solid compromise ... plus it keeps his new car every year streak going

Nope, unfortunately my history of car switching is no joke...it's competely truthful. As I mentioned in a prior thread, I sold the M3 after 18 months of ownership to buy a Civic to cut costs since I was purchasing a house at the time. Since then, I have been gradually working my way back up the ladder.
And yes, I am married. To say the least, my wife abhors this car trading habit of mine and of course it is financially ruinous. She only allowed this recent Auto to 6MT trade because it was a financially neutral deal. That is to say that the dealer sold me the new 6MT for $30K and also gave me $30K for my trade in, so I still have the same monthly payment and same outstanding loan principal with no money out of pocket.
The next time I make a post suggesting I am thinking about switching cars, I hope one of you will care enough to call a doctor for me.

Don't you believe in monogomy? Wonder how long it will take to you start cheating on your 6MT G35? A trip to the dealer here, a test drive there, and before you know it, bye bye G as another fast girl catches your eye, wins your heart, and steals your wallet.
