brake replacement

At 24K miles, heard metal rubbing noise and felt bad vibration. Took to the dealership, they told me I needed all new pads and rotors ('03.5 6MT Brembos). The dealership quoted me the very reasonable price of $1,395 for the front and $1,195 for the rears. (Like I am going to pay that, YEAH RIGHT!!!)

I parked the car, ordered NISMO Type-R pads and dimpled/slotted rotors. I was traveling a lot for work so I called the Nissan dealership to quote an install price. Had a Nissan dealership install them, including the parts, $1,100.

eBay is great!

New pads, resurfaced rotors at 25,000 miles

I just had new pads put on and rotors resurfaced at almost exactly 25,000 miles. I had it done at my dealership, which meant that it cost me a "pretty penny" - $200/pair for the fronts, $130/pair for the rears plus 4 *&%# hours of labor at $112.50/hour. These guys must have milked this job for all it was worth!

On my 2003.5 sedan, my first set of front pads were replaced at 15K miles, and my second set just last month at 20K miles. Seems strange that I only got 5K miles on the last set. I don't ride the brakes, and I don't brake hard either (except to avoid hitting a large rabbit this morning!).

Now on my 3rd set of front pads, I am seeing a lot more brake dust on the left front wheel than on the right. It's hard to quantify, but I'd say at least 2-3X more dust. And I clean the wheels weekly so it's pretty obvious.

Does anyone know if the techs are adjusting the brakes so that they grab harder, thus using up the brake pad faster? Is it possible that the left side is grabbing harder than the right? I'm debating taking it back to the dealer, now that I'm a few weeks out of the brake warranty. At least I found a good brake shop down the road, so I can get the Hawk ceramics everyone's raving about and get it fixed for good.

I have an 05 G35x with 15,800 miles and just had the front pads and rotors replaced at the dealer for $470.00. Believe it or not the dealer felt bad for me and "discounted" the price from his original quote of close to $700.00!

Anyone with an 05 or 06 that is having brake problems please complain to Infinity customer service at 800-662-6200.

I know that Infiniti put out a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty letter for brakes that is applicable to (a) 2003- and 2004-model manual and automatic sedans and (b) 2003- and 2004-model 5AT coupes (i.e. no Brembos). Perhaps they now have some kind of enhanced coverage for 2005 models.

I am in Chicago and go to Fletcher Jones Infiniti downtown. I'm interested in reading other folks' experiences with Illinois Infiniti dealers.
