Just wanted to give you all a warm fuzzy! I was on a 4 lane road yesterday and one of those birght yellow IS300's was in front of me. I caught up and he took off! I mashed the gas and kept up all the way! Never looked at my spedometer but if I had to guess, we were doing 90+ or more. I know it was a manual because it bucked when shifting! We both crept up on a few cars and I beat him through the turning through the traffic! I gotta give the credit to the Stillen intake, hyper grounding system, the 350Z air duct I just installed before taking her out and the G35 Sedan aero package for a job well done! No manumatic shifting was needed and I had the VDC, radio and fan on! I couldn't believe it! Lexus's web site gives the car a 0-60 time of 5.8 and top speed of 143.5 mph! My Sedan dominated!

Who says mods don't work!

Stock 5MT IS300's are not that fast. They take about 7.2s to reach 60.

 

Not to kill your buzz, but these cars just handle and look nice...they are only good for low 15s in the 1/4 mi and they are not known for their speed.

it would have been weird if you have lost to an is300. they are not fast...the 0-60 time you have for the is300 is not correct they run low to mid 7s in 0-60. you should have beaten him easily even with out the modifications.

Let's just say Lexus does luxury, not sport. I didn't even bother test-driving an IS300 after riding in a friend's. Of course, to each his own- I have a friend who swears up and down the RX 300 is "the sportiest SUV"... yeah, I'll go cancel my check for the FX- I forgot.

I was seriously considering an IS300 the specs are auto 0-60 7.3sec and manual 0-60 6.8sec.

BTW it's the G35 that is more luxury... the IS300 has style and handling but it lacks an engine to go with the sporty look. If the IS300 had 260HP I'd be driving one right now... but it doesn't so I am not... God I love the power in my G35!

The 0-60 time on the 5MT IS300 at 6.8 secs is probably less than a car length against our G's.

Not to squash any of your bubbles but it's a close car to ours no matter how you slice it. The luzxury and styling of the G is far superior to the 300 but their car still performs.

Motor Trend clocked the auto G35 0-60 in 6.1 that's .7 sec difference and I remember reading somewhere that every sec difference at 60 is 4 car lengths... so that means the G would be ahead by a close to 3 car lengths... that's quite a bit.. there is also no reason to think that the distance wouldn't keep increasing because I don't think the IS300 has the top end of the G.

Not to trash the IS300... we have a baby and needed a bit more space or I'd probably be driving one right now... it definitely handles better and there are plenty of mods available... maybe the one you raced was modded out.

 

The IS300 does pretty much the same as the G from what I have heard. It may seem better because it is a lighter car.

 

I got tired of speculation in this thread, so I called up a friend and put this to the test

Place: 1 mile of private, controlled paved surface at 700ft above sea level. 80 degrees.
Cars: IS300, G35- no engine mods to either, both with approximately 5k miles
# of Trials: 6
Methdod: Both AT cars were raced in full AT mode, then in manumatic. Drivers switched after three trials to make sure that was not a deciding factor.
Result: G35 was ahead by ~3-4 car lengths at 60mph on all but one trial, where it blasted the IS away (bad shifting on the other driver's part).
Hope this informal trial helps out.
