my first service and i didn't know they would wash my car... never again. came back worse than when it went in. water drop marks all over the place.

Agree, I had them do this the first time just so I could see if they do a good job. Nope, more dirt on the car from when I took it in (washed it 5 days before). Will never ever let them do it again, for a company like Infiniti, you'd think they would have better service, and not be so damn cheap.

Dont let them touch your car unless you want a wash mitt that has been used on a hundred other cars with all that dirt still in the mitt.

 

I get them to put it on the work order
"DO NOT WASH"

& also leave a large note in the car.

I've heard of someone else that made a large lamacoid sign
that they fasten to the steering wheel.

 

What about the wash before initial delivery? I am expecting my Lakeshore 6MT any week now, and I have been kicking around the idea of telling the dealer not to wash/wax/etc when they prep the car.

I have already purchased clay and the Klasse twins and planned to give her a nice bath when I finally get her home.

Any thoughts?

 

Though I do most of my own maintenance, I've always advised the SA not to have my car washed.

My buddy with a black Lexus had his recently washed at the Lexus dealership and the washer severely scratched his entire car because he work Mr. T like jewelry around his wrists!

 

If you're at all experienced with cleaning/polishing/wax'ing your own car I would definitely tell them to skip the dealer prep. It's almost a gaurantee that you will do a better job than they will. Just inspect it for defects when you pick it up (it will be dirty), then get it home and get to work. If you let them do it it might turn out ok, but there is a good chance they will just induce swirls or rotary holograms or something.

 

Like Picus said, do it yourself. Especially if you plan on doing it anyway and have the time. Most of the time, the dealer will do an OK job on prep, but as shown in this thread, their OK job is usually a disaster.

If you are looking for the best look possible, DIY!!!

The only problem i see is;
Depending on how dirty it is, you may have a difficult time inspecting the car.

 

You have to take the car in clean. I mean spotless .
That way they get the sense that you respect your car. Then they will too.
They'll get in and think "whoa, this guy is **** - I better be careful". Also, they know then that you pay attention to your car and know your car and they will be more careful cos if they f' it up you'll tag em for it.

Too many people take their car in dirty thinking that the mechanics will get it dirty anyway. Then the shop thinks "He treats his car like dirt so why don't we do the same". It's not a conscious thought mind you, but it's there.

By taking it in immaculate you are showing them what your expectations are.
I sent it in perfect...I want it back the same way.

Infiniti has crashed and broken **** on my car, hell no do I want them touching my paint. Effing stupid morons @ mission viejo

 

My dealer does a really good job of washing the car. However, I'm never given the option of washing/not washing. They always do it without asking.

However, it's probably pretty hard to make Brilliant Silver look bad. Swirls, etc. don't show up near as much.

I'd probably be extremely **** too, if I had black (which is what I wanted!).
