Sent my G back to shop after 1 day.....help needed

After I took my new black G home, i noticed some weird indentations on the driver side rear quarter panel. There are small marks that look like tiny dents, not scratches though almost like little air bubbles but dented in. Probably not too noticeable if it wasn't your car, but since it's mine I did. I took it to the dealer today and he said most likely it was due to the car being driven with the original white taping on it. They said they would fix it free of charge, but my question is whether or not too fix it. They said they would try to buff it out with a "water duster"(not sure if this was correct term). something that would take very fine sand paper with water or something. I haven't heard of this so I wanted your guys take on it.
Should I do it? also they said if this wouldn't work, then they would re-paint it which from what i gather is a no no.....
Any recomendations on what to do would be greatly appreciated. The car is at the dealer now so I need to decide what I'm going to do by tomorrow mid morning.
Also, is there any way i can not get it fixed and get something else in return, clear bra?
Thanks!

Is this another term for wet sanding? Maybe a brand name?

wet sanding might have been it. All I can recall is that it used water and fine sand paper. I am almost positive he was referring to a method not a product.
thanks again

hi xltros,

if you are not satisfied with your car return it and request that they provide you with a new car. that is what i've done when my brand new '05 G35 got immobilized by a failed power module 35 minutes after leaving dealer's lot. boy i was pissed that night. dealer didn't say a word.
the way i see it, if you are paying a good chunk of change for a brand new car you have every right to expect it to be "in perfect" condition.
just my 2 cents.

good luck,
-skielon

Thanks for the replies, and thanks for the suggestion on requesting a new car. But I really like the one i have, plus it was the only model they had that had everything I wanted and only had 7 miles on it, which for some reason I really liked. Also, the marks are really only noticeable if you know where they are and look close. would they replace a car for that? anybody been through the method of detailing they are offering me and have suggestions on whether or not I should do it?

Last thing, I'm wondering if I tell them I don't want the detailing, would they provide some sort of reimbursement or added benefits....looking for a clear bra as I spent all my money on the G

geez some of you are ****.. you won't get a new car for something like that.. I had a similiar situation.. scratches on the rear trunk lid that weren't noticable at night... the next morning i pulled the car out of the garage and saw them.

took it back, they tried to buff them out, no luck..they repainted the area and I could never tell afterwards..

Are they scratches or dents. If they are dents there no amount of wet sanding, painting or anything else that will remove them and I would ask for something else. If it's just a paint problem they can fix that, just make sure it's to your satisfaction before leaving the shop.

Ask them to comp the costs of having it detailed by a real detailer. Their shop will almost definitely just make it worse (sorry dealerships, your detailing shops suck). Wet-sanding isn't a big deal, but it can be done wrong and it can make issues like yours much worse. Re-painting is ok if it's in a small area. Re-painting an entire panel is a bummer. Find a reputable detailer who wetsands locally, get a quote and bring it to them. If they won't pay for it tell them you want a different car. Ya, some of us are that ****.

They aren't really dents, but not scratches either, kinda hard to describe. but, they said they were going to bring a professional in. Some detailer they always use when needed because their shop doesn't do the wet sanding. Hopefully he's good at it , we'll see. Thanks for the headsup, and looks like i'll tell them to go ahead and give it a wet sand.

What you are talking about are either sheet metal dents from the supplier or solvent pops form when the car was painted and went through the sealer oven. If they are solvent pops, the can be polished out. just make sure they use a orbital after the wet sand so that all swirl marks are gone. If they are dents in the sheet metal that were not finished before the topcoat went on, then the only thing to do is to finish sand the are and re-paint. I work at the Mercedes Plant and see this type of defect all the time.

As far as the comment to request a "perfect car". Lets just say that in my 9 years of working at Ford and Mercedes, I have never seen a perfect car. Not even one that had a $40K paint job. There will allways be some sort of defect. What matters is if that defect is a problem for the customer, and if it is, it should be fixed, not replaced.

I can understand you were upset, but....
They actually gave you another car??
Hard to believe.

believe it or not. IL state law actually gives you up to 72 hrs to get out of the contract, which didn't really give my dealer much choice.
call me ****, but if i am spending 30k+ I want the product to meet my minimal expectations (if it doesn't, I return it). fight for your rights (no one else will do it for you, trust me)... again, just the way i see it ...

cheers,

If it is minor, do not get the panel repainted. Many repaints look perfect for several years then the clear coat starts to peel. Happened to me on many occasions after 35 yrs of car ownership and numerous fender bender repaints. Repaint should be a last resort.

sigh, looks like the wet sanding didn't work. He said they had to paint it because the wet sanding was starting to burn the original paint, due to the deepness of the marks. they said they'd just have to paint the area and a lil around it to blend in. I'll be picking it up on Tuesday so I guess I'll know how it is then....this sucks

Has no one had any good situations with repainting?
