Question ideas on why 0-60 times so close W/38 HP difference....

2005 G35 SEDAN

The 03-04 were probably underated to start with and the 2005 has a bit more weight and it hard to compare two times when its 2 different drivers 2 years apart.

If you look at the specs, the torque for the 2005 didn't increase proportionally to the hp increase. Since it is the torque that gets you off the line, it is no real surprise to me that in a 0-60 situation they would be close.

HP sells cars. Power under curve wins races.

You will see a significant difference in "real world" situations, i.e., on the highway.

Eh... I thought only the Coupes had the 298 hp? I was told sedans were still 280.

Nope, the 6MT sedans are rated at 298hp...

One thing I can say without a doubt is that the rev-up ('05+ 6MT) motors respond much better to mods than the older 6MTs and 5AT motored cars.

I've owned an '04 6MT Coupe and an '04 350Z (also a 6MT) and they didn't respond nearly as well to mods...

I'd need to see proof of that.

0-60 doesn't mean ****. Look at the 1/4 and trap speeds, traps tell you how fast your car really is.

I've read elsewhere that the 2003.5 model actually had the 38 horsepower difference, yet was advertised as having 260 hp not to affect the sales of the 2004 model. Also, as others have pointed out the torque (which 'force', rather than 'work') is what mattered for a 0-60 time and that hasn't changed.

(My first post, woo!)
