Installed! 1st gen Stillen True-Dual on a 2005

I just picked up my Stillen true-dual exhaust from fellow member codeflux.

As we all know (without modification), the aftermarket exhausts made for an '03-'04 will not fit an '05, unless you buy an aftermarket mounting kit from one of our vendors. Instead of doing this, the shop installing my exhaust (Z-Car Garage) bent one of the hangers inward so that it would fit in the factory mounting point, and cut the other one off, as it is not necessary for the 05's. The process took only 5 minutes, and saved me $40. So, anyone looking for an exhaust for their '05, don't limit yourself only to the revised Stillen exhaust, as any of the exhausts made for previous model years will fit with minor modification.

Now, onto the exhaust. The sound is incredible- loud and throaty all the way to redline. This exhaust is infamous for drone, but I have not experienced any. I was told that the previous owner's car (an '03) induced a lot of drone with this setup, and a lot of resonation inside the cabin. I was also told that his exhaust had a completely different tone.

There must be a difference in the sound deadening between the model years, and I don't know what would account for the difference in sound/droning, but I absolutely love the way this exhaust sounds on my car.

vodka, could you post picures of your car? I have an IP 05 as well, and am contemplating in doing some exterior mods like you have.

I forgot to mention the performance gain with this exhaust installed. My car no longer has the same boring linear powerband. After 4,000 RPM's, it just rips through the rev range.

I gave a ride to a fellow member last night who immediately felt the difference in pull from his '05 G sedan.

Haven't gotten around to taking any good pics, but here are two pics that kind of shows the muffler/piping:

Read up on the Stillen exhaust- it's an X-pipe, which hits dual mid-pipes with resonators, and exits from one muffler.

Did you experience any power loss down low after the install? Personally I think the VQ35 is too small to run a "true" dual system on. IMO, a true dual should only be run on V8's...

Marginal loss, if any. I can't gauge a difference in low end, but there is a tremendous increase in performance for the mid to upper rev range.
