Stillen Promises!
Stillen Promises!
Just talked to a Stillen tech in Ca, name was Jay he promises me that with the cold air intake and the new full catback exhaust it will bump me up 32 horsepower to the wheels. What do you guys think?
Re: Stillen Promises!
That may apply individually but you can't just add parts and consecutively add the supposed HP they give. That would mean there are stock cars with mods out there running unheard of power without any engine mods or forced induction.
I wish it worked that way but it doesn't.
Just like those stickers add about 50hp right?

Re: Stillen Promises!
Linh,
I for one, didn't know that!
Since 1998, my experience with Stillen equipment has been positive. I've watched many of their dyno tests where they proved their claims within reasonable differences of individual vehicles.
All the Stillen supplied equipment I put on my old Maxima met or exceeded their claims.
My past experience with Stillen, Borla, Place Racing and Catman products has been very positive. Unfortunately, Borla has't responded to my four Sedan exhaust e-mails over the last year. Don't know why.
And no, I don't work for Stillen. I'm just a customer.

Re: Stillen Promises!
Typically with CAI's and free'r flowing exhaust you gain high end hp (torque) but sacrifice low end performance. That's why the manufacturers always focus on that peak Hp number. I can't explain the exact gas dynamics involved but in general having a little back pressure in the exhaust and a little restriction in the intake boosts low end torque. When I modded my SHO I learned this the hard way. I loved the way it screamed at the top end but I missed my low end torque more. Torque rules the street. Hp rules the track. I'd take a torque monstor any day over a high Hp screamer.

Which is why I'm hesitant to swap out my exhaust.. the stock exhaust is "variable-capacity" -- it has a valve. More back pressure (and less noise) at lower RPM's, then it opens up in the higher RPM range.

Re: Stillen Promises!
Arent the intake and exhaust mods useless until we get the ECU upgrade? From what I've read in other threads, the "adaptive ECU" retards the engine to compensate for the mods and, after it has time to adapt, you're back to stock levels.

Ryoken....you hit the nail on the head. I had my previous Maxima modded by Stillen.....intake and B' pipe with rear section and I lost the juice on low end!!! The G ain't takin the trip to Airway Blvd in Costa Mesa. Our intakes are nicely balanced as they are...
