Try the map and day/night button. That should do it.

I have not noticed in the last 2 years my navigation system waiting until I passed a turn before telling me to turn. I suppose it may be possible if you were in a heavily built up downtown, or in wooded areas, where you are out of view of the satellites many times.

Are you sure about the longest possible route ALL the time? The longest possible route between 2 sites here in Oklahoma would probably involve routing me through Maine, and I haven't seen this.

It can be funny, though, when you decide to not take the exact route it recommends. If it had emotion, and I had the voice turned on, I could imagine it berating me to turn around before it finally gives up and reroutes.

There are times I wish I had a portable unit. Such as when I'm in a rental, or drive my truck instead.

A disadvantage of a portable unit, though, is that you need to place it someplace, it needs power, it is something else you have to take in and out of the car on trips. For a few years, I used a portable GPS. I ended up using velcro on the dash to keep it from sliding around.

kevink, securing the portables has improved quite a bit. The Garmin has a "beanbag" mount that is very secure on the dash. The Tomtom has a windshield mount with more suction than Pam Anderson.

But your points are valid. I have a portable, and my wifes vehicle has GPS built in. There's no arguing that built in units are easier, as long as you don't require taking them anywhere else.

The new Garmin 2720 looks very good, but expensive (PC Magazine has a favorable review). I agree that the Honda/Acura navi is better. A touch-screen does make a difference as well. You just have to make sure you clean off the oil residue left from your fingers once in a while. I expect a touch-screen navi from Infiniti in a few years.

My 05 doesn't have a D/N button is that the "Destination" button? what happens when you push both in together-does it tell you it is running a diagnostic or it just does it? Thanks

The best $720, I have ever spent in electrnoics. It is worth its wait in Gold.
I have used it on few trips, and it has saved me time in traffic jams and guided me to my destination with no major issues.
