There's a lot of brake powder accumulating on my wheels quickly. Is this going to be an ongoing problem or is just extra bad while breaking the car in?

 

It's a problem I see with the newer model Nissans. Yes, it's permanent..............due to the type of brake pads Nissan use.

 

Hehehe. Yes it is a BIG problem! Want to remedy it? There are basically two ways. Change the Brake pads or change to a new brake system! I changed my Brake kit to WIlwood 6 piston brake kit and get significantly less brake dust! I figure that it will cost me less in the long run since you would have to change your brakes(pads and rotors) in about 12K to 18k miles.

get them uber clean, then put a nice layer of polish all all over the rim to give it extra shine then put a crap load on the inside hard to reach places (meaning gota take off the rims),

Just regularly wash the wheels with a good wheel cleaner. It comes right off.

Take the advice here on waxing your wheels. Brake dust, if left for a long time, can eat away at the paint on the rims. Waxing the rims helps protect them from this, and makes the brake dust come off easier.

It works well for me. Just make sure your wheels are spotless before you put it on, because it will seal the dust in. Wheelwax has a cleaner in it, but won't remove the baked-on dust.

Others use Zaino too.

Also, the dust isn't as bad after you seat the pads, but it will always be a problem.

 

Yeah and be careful washing the wheels. I was being a fanatic and reached way in behind the spoke by the brake caliper. Pulling my hand out, I sliced open a knuckle to the bone. Ouch! and a couple of stitches later, I'm not quite as fanatical. Didn't go for the stitches, though, until I finished washing and drying my garnet fire left handed...

When you are replacing your brake pads (which will probably be soon) I have heard EBC Greenstuff pads leave less brake dust without a loss of performance. Is there a link to TireRack.com on this site.. you can get them there

 

Yeah, I looked at them a few days ago--and at the Redstuff and Yellowstuff too. Right now they only show that they carry Greenstuff for the fronts. Hope they get rears soon, too.

I sliced open my hand on those damn brake calipers too!!!! I work at a picture framing shop, so I cut my hands every day anyways, but still, they're evil, watch it. But really..... I know it sucks, but just wash your wheels. If you do it every week or two, it comes off so easy. It definitely helps to use some wheel wax. I just tell myself to suck it up because it's worth it to have a car that stops so fast.

 

The problem doesn't seem quite as bad after six months (or am I just used to black front wheels?!). A periodic rinse with a hose helps in between thorough cleaning.

Yeah, waxing helps with getting the dust off. Be careful to make sure your wheels are totally cool when hosing off the brake dust because I've known some folks who have warped the rotors without thinking by hosing the wheels down when the car is not completely cooled down.
