Before I bought my G35 Coupe I owned a 2000 Saleen S-281 junk stang for three years... My car was very differen't than most and a lot of people would stare but mustangs are so uncomfortable and they are so loud and cheap I just couldn't take it anymore...I owned a high dollar mustang that put out HORRIBLE performance numbers...I raced a white G35 coupe a year ago in my Saleen and I couldn't shake him to save my life... At that point I became obsessed with the G35 and just had to have one...

I am assuming that yours was supercharged. A stock G35 would never be able to hang with you.

I agree about the looks- The Holden/Pontiac/Vauxhall- looks like a previous gen Grand Prix mixed with a previous gen Cavaliar coupe- The only other issues are the fuel tank moved to the trunk and it's obviously quite heavy-(think G35x with a passenger)

However, the LS2 that is found under the hood of the latest version is an awesome piece. And it makes a good 100+ hp and more than a 130lb/ft tq more than a VQ35-Add a Vortech and you are in the schooling business for sure.

The shifting is solid, and the steering on that car is damn nice. The interior is the best I have seen out of GM. Holden did a great job on this car.
If a stock motored G35 was to keep up with the GTO, it would have to be an auto or the driver.
In the turns, the GTO has pretty decent grip and good steering feel. The brakes are decent enough.

If this thing looked half-way decent and offered a trunk, it would be on my list.
You can get a new one for what, $30k now a days? Quite a value.

Yeah thats a mean car. I actually like the look, at least the V.
The GTO was a bummer, they could have made it cool.
The Z06 is obviously a winner, albeit with cheesy interior.

Then again a G45 would have been pretty damn cool too.

I have to think that 2FastG354U’s S281 was normally aspirated. ’00 models were rated for around 280HP. The only performance mods were a K&N air filter, underdrive pulleys, cat back and a (conservative) reflashed computer. Stock S281s are somewhat heavier than a Mustang GT.

The ’00 S281-SC model, like mine was rated at 350HP, 410 TQ.

Naturally aspirated they had higher torque figures. The G35 would have problems keeping up with the N/A S-281.

Well dave, it seems that if you would follow your own advise, you would find your answer. Here is the list of cars that is just as fast or faster than the 'almighty G35' that you own that is faster than 95% of all the different models made. Now, I am going to post all cars that are in the 14's and lower in the quarter mile, b/c there is a range of data that G's post, along with all cars being different, with different drivers. Well, as you can see by the 120+ cars models I just came up with off the top of my head, you can see that there are MANY cars that are just as fast or alot faster than the G35. Yes, alot are not very affordable or practical, but that was not part of our considerations- was it... the G35 is becoming nothing more than an average car in terms of speed - face it. While I do love my 05 G35X, dont try to make it more than it is in terms of speed. faster than 95% of car models made...hardly.

I am sure I forgot some too. Also, these are just the current models/engines that I am talking about...not to mention all the previous engines/models that the car manufactures have stopped making recently.

Hmmm . . . I would have left out the part about having other people in the car with you, as you pushed to 145.

killerlexus, the point I was trying to make was that the G35 is not a fast car. As you can see by the number of cars that are just as fast or faster, it is about average these days. As I stated in my post, yes - many are more expensive and of different body styles. But many are less expensive also.
