Fuel spills out when I gas up

I just got my 05 sport in the beginning of september. Love the car but... unless i dribble the fuel in for the first few minutes, it just pours back out all over the place!! It takes me about 10 minutes to fill up the tank if I want to do it without gas spilling everywhere. I wont even think of taking it to a full serve station cause they cant figure out how to get gas in the tank!!

Has anyone had the same problem?

thats hazardous if you ask me call the dealer and tell them you want it fixed right away and they'll give you a loaner of theirs or rent you one

Yes, but not on this ride. But I believe your problem is the baffle (valve) at the bottom of the filler neck that is stuck closed.

On the other ride (a Ford Contour), once this was replaced, fuel fills went normally.

Time to see the dealer. & G/L

Your car can catch on fire, you need to go to the dealership and get that fixed asap.

Hmmm . . . I had the fuel tank shutter valve replaced in my coupe via a TSB. It took forever to fill the tank. The shutter valve kept closing, as I understood it. However, I did not have fuel backing up. Here is a link to the said TSB.

Regardless of the cause you should definitely bring your car in and have it checked out. Good luck and I hope you get this issue fixed in short time.

Had that exact problem with my '04 x. Super embarassing. Took it to the dealer and they knew exactly what the problem was (see the TB above). I was never so relieved to be able to fill a car with gas !?!

Thanks

Thanks for the help everyone. I found the TSB on line. I'll take it to the dealer and see what they say.
Have a great week.
