Sedan Intake/Exhaust Mods? Speak up!

The Tech Mods forums are pretty much dominated by Coupe discussions, so I figured I'd post here and find out from you Sedan boys what intake and/or exhaust mods you're having success with on your 4-doors (particularly '05's).

I think Sedan owners are often looking for ways to improve performance while retaining some "elegance", while Coupe guys get down and dirty with all-out sports car mods. In other words, a luxury Sedan that sounds like a Camaro/Mustang is not what I'm looking for. But I do want to make my car fast....period.

So what are you guys doing to find some extra HP/Torque?

Fujitsubo cat back exhaust OR.. you can wait for the JIC sedan exhaust. Its going to be twin pipe canister like stock so.. more elegant. debating whether to get that or not.

There is stillen or JWT or Unlimited Tuning CF intake for intakes

I got the Stillen Intake, Z-Tube, Modordyne spacer, Y-pipe, and HKS muffler. The car sounds amazing and gained some HP (not sure how much). I will probably be upgrading to the Stillen Car back next spring.

When you say "sounds amazing" do you mean "really, really loud" amazing or "cool, throaty but still within reason" amazing? My hang up is that I need to have business clients in my car from time to time, so it can't sound like a NASCAR. You know?

It sounds nice a throaty. I also have clients in the car from time to time and have actually been complimented on how the car sounds. It is not a quiet, shy V6 anymore. It is alive now!! BTW, no drone what so ever in city or highway driving.

Sound levels were also a concern to me when modding the car. So I went in stages: 1. Z-tube 2. stillen intake, 3. plenum spacer, 4. HKS and 5. Y-Pipe

It's perfect for me since I wanted to keep the elegance the sedan deserves. Another thing I considered and wanted was an EVEN SOUND LEVEL from the car. Front to back...some cars I've seen and heard, have a nice exhaust but the engine still sounds dead. So you can tell it is just exhaust.

Chico, what y-pipe are you using, and do you have the coupe or sedan mid pipe? Also, out of your performance mods, which one did you like the best or notice any gain from if any?

I got the INTENSEPOWER Y-pipe. You can get it here...http://www.intensepower.com/inmoststfry3.html ...here is a pic also.

You can't go wrong for the money. All the other Y-pipes do basically the same, the only difference is the price because they are imported from Japan. As for the midpipe I had the coupe midpipe but it droned in combination with the HKS, and after much research I decided to put my OEM midpipe back on and the drone was gone. There is really NO difference between the '05 Sedan midpipe and the coupe midpipe. If you have an '04 or '03 sedan, I'd say yes change it for a coupe pipe.

Of all the mods I've done I liked the Stillen Intake with the Z-tube. It really woke the car up and gave it a totally different tone and some gains out of the hole. Then I put the Motordyne spacer and it gave it definately gave the car more pull and a deeper tone to the engine.

Borla Exhaust, Stillen Intake, Carbon Fiber Z-Tube, 5/16 Plenum Spacer.
I have been very happy with all of them.

No exhaust mods yet. I do have the UT polished Z tube though. Adds great sound at WOT and a bit of shine to the engine bay.

I had a bunch of simple mods on my car. Mainly cause I'm a poor bastard. But it sounds clean and ballsy at the same time. My exhaust was like a coupe except deeper. My car is totalled now by the way.

I think the only mods worth getting would be a true dual exhaust, headers, and a good intake plenum spacer (I'm waiting for Motordyne's) with a z-tube... other than that, for real n/a power, get cams and tuning...

The plenum spacer does nothing to remove the turbulance created by all of the (6) support posts in the stock plenum and the uneven forward sloped design. http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/35...num/plenum.htm It's only advantage is that it costs less. UBCool, jbx
