Exclamation Isolated source of driver door "Ticking Rattle"

As I have mentioned in previous post (like some others) I have been bothered by a "ticking" rattle from the drivers door near the B pillar. I removed my door panel so many times that I can do it blindfolded. Weatherstripping, Felt installation did nothing. The dealer has made two attempts, & claimed it fixed, but it remained any time I hit bumps/ door flex.
I now believe the source is the clasp mechanism that actually holds the door shut (by hooking over the bar in the sill). By sitting outside the car in the garage, light pushing on the door would make the sound that has been driving me crazy for months. I sprayed WD 40 into the clasp mechanism and the noise immediatedly stopped (for the time being). I'm not sure how long this fix will last. Perhaps a heavier grease or lubricant would have better long term results.
If the noise promptly returns, I will be asking dealer to replace the clasp mechanism (which appears to be removed with Torx tool).
I hope that this is of help to any of you who, like me, have been wishing they were able to leave their car on the streets of Paris for a few nights- all because of this most annoying noise.

This can probably be adjusted. I have not checked w/ my G, but have done it on other cars. If you just want to lubricate, try white lithium based grease. Hopefully, one of the guys with a FSM will chime in with the gospel on the adjustment. BTW, you can buy Torx bits to use in your 1/ or 3/8 inch ratchet.

I have the same problem with the noise from the driver side door. I have considered to pull my door apart to adjust it. With this new insight, I will give your suggestion a try first before ripping it apart. Thanks for sharing.

I think I may have this same sound in my passenger side door, did it also "creak" on acceleration/braking? It sure sounds like a flex noise, I thought it was coming from the window. has it stayed quiet so far?

I just called my service tech (who could not resolve the ticking) to let them know that I seem to have solved the problem...in case they see the same thing from another customer.
His theory is that the bracket that holds the window mechanism is loose and needs to go to a body shop to tack weld it back to the door. He thinks that the WD-40 lubricant I sprayed on the clasp mechanism worked its way into this loose bracket so as to only temporarily eliminate the noise?
Time will tell. I drove the car 25 miles to work today with no ticking noise. I do plan on further lubricating the clasp with white litheum grease, and will update this post should the noise return.

Question, are you spraying the mechanism on the door or the clasp on the "B" pillar?

Yes, If I leaned hard against the door panel while driving, the noise would stop.

Thanks. I'll try it later and let you know if it works. My noise is intermittent, so I may not know for a few days if it worked. I thought it was the windows.

I had this problem too, it's never gone away completely, but wrapping a couple of layers of electrical tape around the metal latch bar to add some silencing and thickness. Seemed to help.

My rear windows are "creaking" on accel or braking. They temporarily stop if I lower/raise them. My driver's door did this when new, and the dealer said they applied some sort of lubricant to the window guide. I was concerned I would start to see residue on the windows, but none has appeared in the last 4 months, so I will ask them to perform the same thing on the back windows.

I found this problem by opening the rear door and tugging back and forth while holding the top of the door frame. It probably needs the tack welding mentioned in the other post. We'll see.

Good find, I've had this same problem and have noticed two ways to make it go away:

1) pull on the handle from the inside really hard
2) roll the window down.

I think you may have found the actual problem. I'm out of town but I'll investigate when I get home.
