The only time I will list a 'kill'...
The only time I will list a 'kill'...
I usually take my friends to the track if we feel like racing, and I don't usually post 'kills' because a lot of street racing is against random bad drivers, so I don't place too much stock in the results... but...
Tonight, my buddy and I went to Beer Sellar in Indy (our Sunday tradition), and he decided it'd be funny to race me on the way home. We were on a 45mph limit road, and he pulled up next to me at the stop light in his 330xi. I rolled down my window and he said "I don't think you're going to win this one!". He was right, I didn't expect to.
The light turned green and we both floored it. We were neck and neck, me gaining maybe an inch or two per 10mph, then when we hit 50, my ride pulled away from his pretty fast. We did this again at the next light with the same results....
He'd recently been calling the loaner I was driving an 'overblown station wagon', so I made sure I told him, as I drove away, "You just got beaten by a station wagon, dude".
That's right, I was in an FX35 and beat his 2002 330xi into the ground... THIS surprised me, although I've NEVER been as impressed with the performance and drive of an SUV as I have been in the past two days. Glad I got one!

Re: The only time I will list a 'kill'...
Wow that is cool that you one in an FX35 since the FX45 has about the same times as the G35 sedan auto. Was your friends car auto or stick? Because the stick of the 330ix is doing about what our car is doing and the auto is doing about 6.8
Re: The only time I will list a 'kill'...
He's got an auto. I had no idea the 330xi was that (comparably) slow... After all, I've got only a .2L larger engine, but on a much heavier car. I expect the 45 to give him a run for his money, but not the 35. He didn't look at me after the two runs, sort of avoided looking over at me at the last light... pretty funny.

take the last two #s in the bmw name
That's a good general rule of thumb, but not always accurate. The older 740 and newer 745 both share the same 4.4L block, though the "45" has more technical bits bolted on. The 323 was also a 2.5L block with fewer go-fast bits than the 325.
