My new G35 saved my life!
Your attitude after everything, which has happened to you is to be applauded. I trust you are feeling better and will have a full recovery. Congrats to you and your wife on your soon to be new addition to the family.
Your great and positive outlook on things will serve well as an excellent example for all of us.

WOW, that guy SUX, he should not be put on the road if he is caught. How irrresponsible of him. I am glad that you are ok and that you and your pregnat wife are safe at home.
I am amazed by the enginner of nissan. I personally owns 2 infiniti. A G20 and a G35. The G20 saved me and my wife's life couple of times.
First accident, it was snowing and I was goin on a ramp and i lost control of the car and i made 2 360 degree b4 hitting to a slope and come to a complete stop. I was amazed that only front bumper was tear off. The car was fixed.
Second accident, my wife was driving that night and she stopped at the light when an 18 Foot trailer hit the rear of the car and the impact was so strong that she hit the car in front. When i got to the accident the G20 was squashed, no front and no rear, but the passenger compartment was intact. The trucker was responsible for the cost of both cars. Well guess what, the G20 are still driven everyday and are still going strong for a car that has 148hp.
So when i was looking for a 2nd car, i chose the G35.
I am not trying to sell, but just want to put some input to this.

One thing, and i'm not actually sure if it comes into play with a rear ender or not. But i'm sure you know, but the engine mounts are designed to break away as is the drive shaft and the brake pedal. Make sure the insurance man is aware of this and checks the condition of those items as I would think if the car let go of the engine mounts and the drive shaft, that's going to help you total it on out.....
Just my two cents, and I would be curious of others thoughts on if those items would come into play in a rear ender or just a front impact....

Then, the driver that hit me...RAN! It was absolutely crazy. My G35, now called "The Guardian," was seriously damaged and may be totalled after Geico inspects it...I spent most of that night in the ER but except some really bad whiplash and back pain, I am seem to be ok.
It sucks to have this happen to my new car, but if it had to happen, Im glad it happened in this car. It is awesome and protected me. More importantly, I was the only one in the vehicle while my pregnant wife and our little 18 month old were safe at home. I'm alive and I'm grateful for the engineers and workers that designed and built my vehicle with my safety and the safety of my family in mind.
If it is totalled, you can be sure that I get another G35! If it is repaired, I know most people say that the car will never be the same afterward, and while this is true in many ways, I also feel that this car has proven its merits and capacity for protecting its owner.

What kind of intrusive damage did the rear seat area get?

Just got back from the Doctor
I definetely have whiplash. I just got back from the doctor. The Doc said it was quite severe and that I get a lawyer because it looks quite possible that I may be in a world of hurt for a while.
Yassy, it's cool your friend didn't get whiplash. I have no idea whether the seat belts pretensioned or not. I assume they did because I didn't hit anything in front of me after the impact. The car held me tight. The thing is I am 6' 6''. As you can imagine, my neck is pretty long and it had a long way to move even with the tight seat belts. I have tried my whole life to keep my neck and back healthy, because tall people often have problems later in life. Well, all that went out the window. My Doctor said this could take a long time to get better, and it might never be like it was. I hope he was just giving me the worse case scenario, but in anycase, I am alive...thats enough for now. I'm just taking one day at time.
I like the THX GJUS plate idea, maybe I'll just write that on my heart instead.

Yes def get a lawyer, all the stuff to get whiplash helped is expensive (and painful too!). I'd say skip any chiropracter and goto a pain specialist or spine DR (at least from my experience).
LOL @ that plate idea

I suggest you get a ct or your c-spine or MRI. You may have a herniated disc or ruptured disc in your neck if you have any numbness tingling or radiation of pain down your neck into your back. Yes my friend was 5'2" and she was fine - so being taller certainly may have had an impact on your unfortunate discomfort.
Whomever suggested a lawyer, for what? Defend did you catch that bastard yet? Unless u know whom the other person was, who are you going after?
yassy
My Doctor is the one who said I should get a lawyer. He said it was more serious than I imagined. Even though the guy ran, three witnesses got his license plate number. None of them matched exactly, but together they probably got all the info. The police report will be available in 4 more days and the lawyer I talked to said they have their own investigators to chase after the suspect. There is no guarantee that he will be caught, but the lawyers said if they can't find him, there is no charge.
Most of the people I know who have had experience in this area said to get a lawyer very early. I figured it's not a bad idea, and can't hurt. The police were nice, but I can't believe they couldn't find a destroyed toyota without headlights or a radiator going no more than 15mph in a distant suburb. I doubt it made it more than a mile before overheating. I suppose it is possible they did catch him already, and that it will show up in the police report. I really don't know.
Anyone had a similar experience?
Someone asked if there was cabin intrusion...none that I noticed. The front door opened at least. But I didn't get a very good look at the car. I was strapped down almost immediately to a stretcher with a neck brace on. That was a scary experience in and of itself.
My wife went back to the car to get some belongings before it was towed. She said the trunk was terrifying. She got it to open and could see into the bumper. I guess everything in the whole compartment was twisted and mangled metal. My G broke its bones so I wouldn't break mine. Gotta love loyalty like that!
Oh yeah, one thing that was also pretty scary. I think the gas tank ruptured.
There was a steady stream of something leaking off the muffler, but no puddle. I figured it must have been gas. Glad it didn't explode, but this is a G, not a pinto. I will talk to the Geico inspector today and find out what exactly is broken.

Car is going to be totalled!!!
Geico called today. They have been very awesome by the way so far. The Car is going to be totalled. They said that according to Nevada Law you cannot replace more than one structural unit on the vehicle. After getting hit so hard from behind, I need 4! He said some cars companies will sell the rear floor and both body panels as one unit (3 for 1), meaning that I would still need to replace 2 structural units. This is too many anyway...and Infinity does not sell them like this in anycase. Go Inifinity!
So...looks like I get to do the whole car shopping experience over again. Lets just keep my fingers crossed I get a decent replacement value out of the car...by the way...I bought GAP coverage through my credit union!!!! I have a feeling it is going to one of the best things I ever did.
You can bet I'm getting a G35 though!

Glad you're doing relatively well. Here's to hoping your recovery is quick and complete.
One question I have is whether or not you adjusted your head rest? Being that you're 6'6", you would have to have the head rest at it's maximum height. After reading about how much the "Active Head Restraint" systems are supposed to do in this type of collision, I'm very conscious of where the unit is positioned whenever I get into a car, especially one that I've never driven before.
Again, glad you and yours are ok.

Akrus,
I had my head restraint in its highest position. I have always been very aware of its position, though I never really imagined it would actually be hit from behind in order to need it. To be honest, things worked out just about as well as they could have so far as my safety goes. I love my G35.
I have a question now for anyone out there. My Infinity was a 2003 model wth 28000 miles. They replaced the front brakes at the dealership the day before the accident under warranty, I guess the 03 models went through them very quickly. My question is this...Did they fix the brakes in the 04 model? How much does it cost to maintain the brakes on an 03 model?
I may buy an 04 instead of an 03 to replace "the Guardian" Any input would be extremely helpful. I plan on keeping this new car for along time way past its warranty period.
