My new G35 saved my life!

Hey everyone

This is my first post on this forum. I bought my G35 four days ago. Two days ago, I stopped at a stop sign and was rear ended by what the police assume was a drunk driver going about 45mph. Three witnesses said my car "Flew" into and across the intersection (about 70 feet), before I was able to bring it to a stop. I still had temporary tags on it.

Then, the driver that hit me...RAN! It was absolutely crazy. My G35, now called "The Guardian," was seriously damaged and may be totalled after Geico inspects it...I spent most of that night in the ER but except some really bad whiplash and back pain, I am seem to be ok.

It sucks to have this happen to my new car, but if it had to happen, Im glad it happened in this car. It is awesome and protected me. More importantly, I was the only one in the vehicle while my pregnant wife and our little 18 month old were safe at home. I'm alive and I'm grateful for the engineers and workers that designed and built my vehicle with my safety and the safety of my family in mind.

If it is totalled, you can be sure that I get another G35! If it is repaired, I know most people say that the car will never be the same afterward, and while this is true in many ways, I also feel that this car has proven its merits and capacity for protecting its owner.

Thank G-d for modern vehicle design. I'm glad you seem to have minimal effects from such a viscious hit. Makes me feel good to be riding around in the same type of vehicle. You never know when some idiot will do something totally out of your control. I hope the vehicle IS totalled, but if not it's true that they can do amazing work in fixing damaged vehicles. Good Luck down the road.

I am sorry to hear of your incident and hope your injuries aren't serious. I hope they caught the guilty party. The car is designed to protect the occupants by "crumpling", so repair is not cheap since most of it will require replacement. But it's just a car and you're alive. Best of luck to you and your car.

Wow, Bad luck in some ways, but good luck, as you say, in others. Your G probably saved your life.
Good luck with the replacement, and recovering from the whiplash.

Be safe
Colin.

More about what happened

I still haven't received word if the car that hit me has been found or not. I was in no shape afterward to do much, but the witnesses got several plate numbers. Unfortunately, none of them matched exactly. The police hope that one between them all they got the correct one.

As you can imagine, the car that hit me was in terrible shape. He "Sped" away from the accident at maybe 15 mph. One of the witnesses said he saw him dump all of his coolant, and he had no headlights. I called 911 seconds after impact, but I was pretty deep in the suburbs and it took a while to get any police out there.

I'm sure his car didn't make it far. It was a miracle his car was working at all...it was an early model camry. The police said it may have been stolen (It's one of the most stolen vehicles.)

My wife as able to come to my side within minutes. She got there right before I was put in the ambulance. She took care of the ugly details of having the car towed and has been really awesome and strong through the whole thing. It is never easy to get a call at night by your husband saying "Honey, I've been hit hard and my neck hurts. I'm being taken to the hospital."

By the way...Wear your seatbelts! I was wearing mine, and Im sure it saved me from having way more injuries.

When I stopped at the intersection for the stop sign, I looked in my mirror and saw this car flying right at me. I had enough time (maybe a quarter of a second) to take in what was about to happen. Your mind can think really fast in times like that.

1. Oh my Gosh, he's gonna hit me.
2. I hope I live through this.

Next thing I knew, I was already across the intersection.

I did have time to take my foot off the brake, but I'm not sure if my foot made it to the gas. One thing is sure though, I probably set a record for G35 acceleration from a stop. lol.

Then the most important thing. I lived.

I'm really grateful for my life and my family. Another thing though. I was really impressed by the goodness that is in so many people. I mean, yeah some idiot hits me and leaves me for dead. But the witnesses that rushed to my aide. The ambulance workers and police. Everyone was so kind. The doctors and nurses in the hospital, and my friends and family that contacted me to make sure I was ok. There was one jerk, but his cruelty and inconsideration were overwhelmed by the goodness in so many people.

I will let you guys know what Metro police finds out.

Thanks for all the support, Im at home right now recovering. I appreciate it.

It is good to hear that you are ok. I know there is only so much you can do as far as making sure the insurance company totals your car, but if I were you I would demand it. I would put up the biggest fight to make sure they total it.

Hope you come back alright after your injuries.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Hope your recovery goes well, and don't worry about your car, that can be replaced. Your health and life is more important.

I've been there too..

What is it w/ drunk drivers and running away!!

I was in Savannah a couple years ago sitting at a red light and the same thing happened. There were 2 cars behind me, and then some drunk idiot in a silverado rammed them probably at 60mph, and I saw it coming and tensed up. Whiplash ugh. The car first hit was completely totaled, the 2nd car crumpled, then hit what I was in, a Bronco so that thing took no damage but the force went right through it. Afterwards we had to chase down the drunk guy 3x before physically holding him till the cops got there. And yes I was glad everyone was ok, no major injuries but man I was so mad that this was this guys 3rd DUI!!!!

But thank g-d you are ok, and hopefully the police will find the guy that hit you and you can get a new car and pay all your med bills :-)

Thank you for sharing your story. I can tell you it gives me a lot of confidence in the safety of my G35 to know you survived this horrible accident with so few injuries.

I hope you recover quickly and can finally enjoy owning this fine automobile for reasons other than safety when you get your replacement.

Best of luck. Cale
