ECU Reset...Help!

A couple of questions. If possible, please help me out!

- How exactly do i unplug the battery and for how long if i want to reset the ECU?
- Does it reset my Odometer also?
- I was told that i need a code for my radio if i reset the ECU, is this true?
Just some advice on what i should do if i wanted to reset the ecu. Thanks alot

KhaL

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

yngphllykd, Relax bro it's no biggie.
Disconnect the negative terminal for 12 hrs. Some say 3 hrs is enough but I was told 12 hrs was necessary.
After that, reconnect carefully and securely. Reset your clock and radio station presets, odometers will be at 0, and navi mpg's averaging will be lost and start over. That's it. enjoy.

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

just curious, if the odometer can be reset by unhooking the battery for 12 hours what is to prevent some scum(dealer) from doing that and potentially reselling the car as new?

Please tell me that I am missing something.

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

sorry but do you just disconnect the negative terminal, and not the positive?

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

Are you sure it's just the trip that gets reset and not the actual mileage on the car itself?

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

KhaL,

Remove the negative battery post for 12 hours. You will loose your radio stations and trip counter but not total miles on your engine. I have no NAV so no comments here but other folks did mention you will loose that settings too. I think the odometer is burnt into the NVRAM (non volatile RAM). What you do not loose is the garage door opener setup, not sure why and I am glad it does not. Definitely your ECU will feel brand spanking new and you will feel it especially if you have not done for at least 500 miles (depending on your driving style of course). I have rigged mine up such that I can disconnect the battery quickly and easily.

Check out here. Half a twist and I am disconnected, no tools required.

Cheers,
PratG35

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

The easiest way to reset your ECU is the diagnostic mode method posted in the FAQ on this site. I performed it on my car for the first time earlier this week and it worked perfect, took 5 minutes.

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

I drove 11,000 miles before trying the Easy ECU Reset and I'm skeptical that it actually does the trick. You can refer to my earlier post in the Technical and Mod section for a full description. I think the 12 hour, negative terminal disconnect is the best way to go. I like it so much, in fact, that I've installed a Master Battery Switch on the negative terminal so I can just turn a **** for easy disconnect.

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

Dunno, perhaps it doesn't work on some cars, but I could definitely tell quite a difference in my car after doing the easy form of the rest.

Re: ECU Reset...Help!

Ok we are like the most confused mf's - I think we need to figure this out...if a guy says it resets w/ easy method and gets gains - i have to believe him, after 11,000 he know his car. Must try again and this time I'll wait until car is deep in mushy mode so differences are less vague.

How may people got a reset with gas pedal?
