Dealer tried to make a fool of me

Here is the summary:
A salesman offers me a car at a fantastic price. The next day I agree to purchase and we start filling out the paperwork. 5 minutes later the salesman tells me he's sorry but the car was allready sold...then tries to sell me something else.

What happened?!? Somebody forget to inform him?!?

I gurantee you that this car has not been sold.

I am wondering if there is anything that I can do??? Someone I can notify about this dealership's sales practices??? Call Infiniti HQ's?? contact better business??

I didn't expect this type of practice from a luxury car dealer.....

Unless you signed something you really have nothing in your corner. My dealership threw so much bs at me it almost completely turned me off to the car. From my experience the best car buying experience is Mercedes but then of course you have to deal with warranty issues.

That's what they call a "Low Ball" price to get you in and then when you have the "fever" make you buy at a higher price. If the price was a fair one, they will honour it and can order or locate another car for you. But like Nismo said if it wasn't in writing, you do not have any options.

You are officially a victim of the bait and switch... bait you with a low priced deal, then attempt to switch you into something more expensive. It is unfortunate, but Infiniti isn't only luxxury car dealer that plays these tricks... it all boils down to the salesman.

If the salesman was really attempting something unethical, complaining to the GM may help. You may not get the deal initialy promised, but the salesman may be reprimanded.... i.e. if the GM isn't unethical as well.

Re: Dealer tried to make a fool of me

That does suck and the guy has no integrity, so finding a another dealer is probably the best way to go. I guess they vary quite a lot. If you go to the Infiniti site and search under dealers you will see which ones in your area received service and customer satisfaction awards. That's how I decided who to go to. I'm in the Philly, PA area.

I had a great buying experience. Made my deal for a 6MT sedan mid-March--went on a Saturday for test drive and chat. Dealer and I negotiated a price orally that was great for the time and short supply of 6 MTs ($700 over invoice). The car I wanted was not on the lot, but he said he could get it for me before too long. We shook hands, and nothing was in writing because I wanted to think about it overnight. Sunday afternoon I called to take the deal if he was sure he could get what I wanted. So I went over and we put the deal we had shaken hands on in writing. I gave him a deposit.

The car I wanted came through another dealer in 4 weeks and he got it for me. Except it had a wing and I didn't want one. So he asked me to take delivery and they'd switch trunk lids when the needed part came to do it. He never even cashed my deposit. When I took delivery and asked why he hadn't cashed the deposit, he said they operated pretty much on "good faith" and held deposit checks but often didn't cash them til delivery.

3 weeks later the part needed to switch trunk lids came and they called me. By that time, I decided I really liked the wing so I called and told the guy. I thought I'd have to pay something. He said "Great. Glad you like it. Keep it as a present." So, in doing that, the price I had paid for the car turned out to be just $200 over invoice.

Good luck.

Re: Dealer tried to make a fool of me

I think the problem was with the Sales Manager...when I went back there was different guy than the one that originally offered the quote.

Either way, should I reveal the this NJ dealership and the name of the salesman that attempted to jerk me??? Would Infiniti of America even care about this??

I want everyone to be aware of the type of games this dealership plays.

Re: Dealer tried to make a fool of me

If I were you, walk away and don't let them make any single penny from you even they (unlikely)offer you the same deal, you can find a good deal anywhere from Infiniti. btw, what is the name of the sales and dealer? so other people won't have the bad experienece as you did.

Hey pissed_G35. Got it at Willow Grove. Had a great buying experience there. Also visited Ardmore and found them to be really snotty and requiring a $500 deposit before giving a test drive of a 6MT sedan back in late winter, early spring.

Me again. Yes, you should definitely notify Infiniti HQ in America because dealerships and salespeople are always vying for incentives and awards based on their customer service. In fact, after making a buy, you get a long survey about your buying experience to send in to Infiniti HQ.

Re: Dealer tried to make a fool of me

I have someone in ardmore who did alot for me - let me know if you want a nice salesman's name there - pm me. That crap on deposits would have sent me packing - they are basically looking to see if you'll be thier bitch when the ask for deposit.

Re: Dealer tried to make a fool of me

Hi guys!

I am from around the area and just ordered a '04 6MT DG/G. I got it for $500 over invoice, but I had to mention the Grubb's VPP pricing from freshalloy. I told them about it and they were willing to deal. Have it written on paper too. The sales lady was very courteous. She let me test drive both a coupe and a sedan, even though I was only there just to look at the car that one day. Give Willow Grove a try.

Re: Dealer tried to make a fool of me

FIle a bait and switch complaint with the BBB (www.bbb.org). Though it might not get you a car, a complaint on the record will have to be responded to. Even if they deny it, they will not be happy about a complaint.

Also, try http://www.infiniti.com/form/global/...on/0,,,00.html
You can file a complaint (with Infiniti consumer affairs) online or write or call. They will respond too. With my dealer complaint, they ended up sending me a $200 certificate good for anything (parts or service) at a Infiniti dealer.
