My Dunlop M3 sport snow tires meet the hype

I never thought snows were any big deal til I started reading about the G and how snows made all the difference in the world. I really wanted the G in a 6 spd so I bought into the hype and got Dunlop M3 sport snows and 17" wheels. Well it snowed 3 inches last night and I drove my G for the first time in the snow and the G with snows, in my case the M3s, is everything I hoped it would be. I have a fairly steep driveway that I had problems last yr getting up with my 540 with all seasons. With the M3s no problem and once on the road I felt like I was in my wifes Jag X type with all seasons, the car just cut through the snow with very little slide. For all you 6spd lovers who are thinking of getting an X because of snow-don't. The RWD with snows does the job just fine. And I heartily recommend the Dunlop M3 sports which handle great on dry pavement.

Wow...I've been hearing a lot of good things about these M3's. Last year when I was winter tire shopping (doing research on this forum), I don't recall the M3's. I heard of the Blizzak's and the Pilot Alpin PA2's mostly. Did the M3's just come out?...or have they been here all along. I think I may try them out when I need another set of snows!

I just put my M3's on last week and I love them! My confidence driving in the snow went way up!

If you did that, you would be able to move in snow, but you wouldnt be able to steer...

I got the M3s this year as well. Two light snows and they have worked great. It is a pleasure knowing I can get up my driveway in snow this year. Dry driving is great. Overall awesome tires.

I agree 100%, the tires are great. jimmyc13, the M3's have been out for a few years, but I read somewhere that last year they sold out really fast and were hard to find/get. wanalaugh74, you got to get all 4, otherwise stopping and steering will be drastically reduced, especially if you have summer tires now.

Ahh thx... one other thing. im here in the washington dc area and eventhough we get winter weather, the majority of the winter is spent in just cold but dry climate. How are these things on the dry pavement? i have heard of some winter tires making horrible noises above 60. experiences?? Thx

I am wondering if anybody switched from the blizzaks LM-50s to the dunlop M3 and how much of a decrease in snow/ice grip the M3 had. I am using the blizzacks now and couldnt be happier in snow/ice condition, but on a dry road they are a bit floaty, I know its because they are hard core winter/ice tires. I also know that the M3s handle better in dry situations than the LM-50s. I am on my 3rd winter with the blizzacks and if the M3s dont provide greatly lesser winter/ice grip I might get them next. So can anybody provide some info from their own personal experience ?

And where are the brakes? Most of the breaking power is provided by the front brakes. Also the steering is provided by the front wheels. Changing out just the rear wheels to winter might actually be more dangerous than not having any at all, as you can accelerate but not steer or stop. Get all 4.

I'm not aware of snow tires being bad above 60. If it's from a recent thread on this forum, I believe it was due to improper balancing. I have Michilen Pilot Alpin PA2's, and they're great.

The M3's are really good on dry pavement, not as good as your summer tire would be but about as good as an all season. I have almost no tire noise on the hwy.

Ok guys - you've convinced me to buy some winter rubber. From what I'm reading on here the Dunlops seem to be the favorite tire - but they are SO EXPENSIVE. The lowest I can find is $192.00 apiece from TireRack. Can any of you guys recoommend a more economical substitute?
