Video of my car without the muffler

For those interested, I've hosted the video of my car without the muffler. It sounds great. Because it was actually warm, we ran with the windows down. When I turn around, you can hear the rear-end kick out(yes, VDC was off at the time), and that was only part throttle.

Anyway, it's only about 2 minutes long. It's in mp4 format, and weighs in at about 45mb in size. Until someone gives me a better alternative, I'm hosting it on my own server. As such, please be patient when downloading it, as I've only got 384k outbound.

Here's the video:

At what RPMs does the torque converter lock on the 5AT? That may account for 'loss of numbers' before 3K. Maybe if the numbers around a particular range vary too much the computer just kind of 'ignores' those numbers.

Here's another update on the video. After I posted it last night, 17 people tried to view it at once. This killed my connection. I mean, it was so bad that I couldn't even get to google.

So, I removed it from my server. I'm trying out google's video hosting service. I'm waiting for it to be approved. Once it's approved, I'll post a link to it.

Sorry for the hassle guys.

Video is available here:

Apparently the video was recompressed by google; the audio is a little "tinny"; typical audio compression. Don't confuse that for rasp; there was none.

Trey and Cheryl, thanks for doing the test. The dyno results look promising.

Trey, since you like the sound of the exhaust with no muffler, maybe consider having a shop weld a flange and straigh pipe to mount up to the muffler location and then weld on a quality resonated exhaust tip/tips. The exhaust noise being directed away from the car and the resonated tips taking a little rasp out, it may be the setup you're looking for. It sounded cost more than $100 with the quality tip/tips being about $50 of that price. Today I went ahead and ordered the Borla TD. I'm excited and nervious

BTW, I still owe you money.

When

When you get her all Horsepowered up give me a holler, you can use me as a gauge on how fast you are . On Jan.16th have a appt with Altered Atmosphere, getting the 440cc injectors, plenum spacer, and the HKS Navigator to tune my SC, probably get a 50-60 hp gain over what i have now. Give me a shout and lets run em.

WOW I was under the distinct impression that you weren't speaking to us. But I guess this doesn't *really* count now does it?

Sounds like a nice bit of work being done there - good luck and post up some numbers after you get it all finished. Heard you had a "run-in" with a small 4 legged critter of some sort. I assume you got things fixed up. Hope it wasn't much damage.

Hey Andy, my specs are in my signature. I've been on Trey to put his sig back up - especially as much as he missed them . I'll let him reply or edit as he may choose.

NOTE: my new Z tube was NOT installed yet when we did the testing. All other info is correct.

Dude, good luck the the mods. I bet it's gonna be sweet.

As for running you, there is now, and never will be, any comparison. IHell, I can't run with the other NA z's out there. DayBlueZ is putting down mad times; it would take me quite a bit of cash to match that, much less your times.

DaveB,

I am SERIOUSLY considering doing this as well. I can't wait to hear how things turn out for you. The one thing that I miss from my F-150 is the deep exhaust tone from the V8 and the magnaflow exhaust.

Why did you choose the Borla instead of Stillen or others?

EDIT - After running a search of some of your other posts it seems as if you went Borla because it is cheaper for what seems to be basically the same gains. I still can't wait to hear your review.

I'm nervous and excited. The exhaust was shipped yesterday and should be at my office when I get back to Kansas City (I'm currently in Portland,OR) on Friday. I should have it installed this weekend. Once the exhaust gets a nice carbon coating on the inside so that it can emit it's true sound, I'll make some audio files from the inside of the car while driving around. I've heard plenty of Stillen/Borla TD audios, but they only seem to be from the rear of the car while the car revving in neutral. That type of audio doesn't do us any good. Exhausts sound entirely different when the motor is under load.

I went with the Borla because it was $250 cheaper, many say it's quieter, it supposedly makes the most gain for the TDs, and I have this thing about giving Stealin' my money
