Coupe Midpipe?

is there any proof (dynos?) of actual power gain from adding a coupe midpipe? or is it only for sound and weight reduction? also, does anyone know the actual difference in weight between the sedan and coupe midpipes? thanks!

Sound improvement and weight reduction only. On my 05 sedan (which has a lighter mid pipe than older sedans) the coupe mid pipe was 18 lbs lighter that my sedan mid pipe. The sound is improved. More of a deep tone at low RPMs and high RPMs

Overall a nice upgrade.

yeah if everything goes ok it should be pretty easy with the right tools. depending on where you live rusty bolts can make the job harder.

A very simple mod. If you have access to a lift it should only take about 10 minutes to remove the old mid and install the new mid. The tone is lower and it really doesn't increase the exhaust sound inside of the car.

THis was just discussed the other day right here..

https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v35-2003-06/79313-sedan-midpipe.html

THe install took 30 minutes from the time I opened the box to the time the car was back on the floor. All that is needed is a 14mm deep socket and a 12mm deep socket, a ratchet, and a 6" extension, floor jack, and a jackstand or 2.

THe stock middy weighs 26lbs and the coupe middy weighs 8 lbs.

THe tone of the exhaust deepened just a little but I cant tell if there is a power gain, but I dont think there is any loss in power either. No drone at any RPM.

Havent had a chance to find a dyno in the vegas area yet, but i will..

it seems if there is any improvements at all to go from a 05 middy to a coupe middy, it would be weightwise... shedding 18 pounds of unsprung weight would possibly help in acceleration performance but it won't show on a dyno though...

i wonder how the weight change would affect the front to rear weight distribution though, unless if it is close to cg of g35, then it wouldn't matter much...

THe heaviest part of the pipe is the resonator which is located near the center of the car slightly rearward. I would imaging filling your gas tank would have more affect on your center of gravity @ 7lbs per gallon

The exhaust system is not unsprung weight so the effect on performance is far less than losing weight in say, the tires or the brake rotors for example. Still less weight is always better for performance.
