Which synthetic oil to use

Am moving to synthetic after 10,000 miles , which one is the best.

What are the benefits of using synthetic oil other than changing it every 5K , does the engine react better and gives better gas mileage

Thanks

you pay 2x as much. there is a good article somewhere about the comparison. I used Castrol Syntec Blend (since I got it on sale for a few cents more than normal dino) it helped give me 1 extra mpg on my old volvo so I think it helps but not to the extent that many ppl think it does.

Since you are under warantee, you cant really go more than 7500 per change. But get the Mobil 1 extended performance 5W/30 at Walmart for $25 a 5 qt. jug. Get a Purolator PureOne PL14610 (6$) from PepBoys etc., take them to the dealer and they will charge about $18 labor to do it. So about $50 total every 7500 miles. Not too bad and its some of the best stuff available. Of course you could do it yourself, but for $18 why bother with the mess? Plus saving receipts is a PITA when the dealer can keep all the records if they do it.

The low number is basically the rating for cold weather.
The lower that number the thinner the oil is.
I wouldn't use 0W oil...ever.

5W 30 is the best for cold and 10W 30 or 10W 40 for warmer seasons.

Prices of oil has gone up at Costco recently for the mobil 1 supersyn 5w-30...

Here in sacramento, the 6-qt cases are going for $27+ each now when last year about the same time it was only about $24 per case.... back when i first got my 2k2 6spd max, i was getting them for $22 per case at costco... oh well, times have changed... now I don't change my maxima's oil until at least 4500 miles now...before it was 3k-3.5k miles per change...

Cost of oil has gone up everywhere.
Making 30 Quadzillion dollars a year isn't enough for the oil goonies, so
even though we have more in reserve than ever prices keep going up.
Even if it was a bit more at Costco, I'd still get it there, at least they
pay their workers livable wages, give them healthcare, retirement, and
don't discriminate against women, don't knowingly hire illegals, abide by state and federal laws, etc etc. You couldn't pay me to shop at Walmart. But that's a whole different story.

As for which to use in Las Vegas
5W-30 in cold months
10W-30 or 10W-40 in hot months

+1....Good points. If you don't want the bother, most dealers will do the labour for you for a small charge.

I use Castrol Syntec, but only because I buy it in bulk. Mobil 1 and Amsoil are good too.
