Shake at 90

My G 6 MT has about 600 miles on it. Reading the manual
and looking at some posts here the general consensus seems to be to stay under 4k rpm for the first 1200 miles.

That's well and good but in 6th gear I can hit 90 staying just over 3k rpm. Having said that, today was the first day that I hit 90 on the parkway. As soon as I hit 90 I was shocked to feel the wheel vibrate and shake, so I took it down to 80 keeping it in 6th and the vibration went away. I usually drive around 80 to work in the morning and have never had this occur.

Is this normal at that speed? Am I pushing this car too far, too early?

Time for service?

Re: Shake at 90

If the wheel was shaking, it sounds like a balancing issue. I have a 5AT sedan, and at 90 it feels smooth as glass. I have 11,500 miles.

Re: Shake at 90

That break in crap is a bunch of bull. I get just as good gas mileage as the next and I can keep up with the rest. I didn't red line it everytime, but I did enjoy my car from the very beginning. IT SHOULD NOT shake at 90 even if you were in 4th gear.

Re: Shake at 90

It shouldn't shake a 120, much less 90.

*ahem* or so I've heard... *ahem*

Check your tire balance. They might have thrown a weight

Re: Shake at 90

I concur with the whole 120 plus thing. NO instability evident in mine all the way up to 130 or so (of course it was at a track)

Re: Shake at 90

Mine is solid at 90, 100 and 110. Never been above 110. Sounds
like a balance problem.

Re: Shake at 90

This seems to be very common as I also have a steering wheel shake with only 1600 miles. I'm going to have the wheels balanced using a Hunter GSP9700 and hopefully that will solve the problem. If not, its off to the dealer.

Re: Shake at 90

Thanks all for the responses. I'll take it in and have them check the balancing.

Thanks.

Re: Shake at 90

Make it three here and two or three more on freshalloy. Mine has been back to the dealer twice so far and it still shakes

Re: Shake at 90

That's pretty good IMO since most cars are torchered all day in terms of balance and alignment causing hazards...I sure hope it's all tire or alignement/balance issues and not a problem with your cars.

Re: Shake at 90

Mine shakes between 60-75. I swapped the stock tires with my snowtires last weekend to see if the problem went away, and it did.

Next stop: Tire balancing

Re: Shake at 90

So far, everyone with a balance/vibration problem that I've heard of that's gone to a shop with a Hunter GSP9700 machine has had the problem corrected.
