Vortech, UTEC my X
Vortech, UTEC my X
Woohoo! Finally got my X back from AAM. In a previous post I talked about the UTEC compatibility with the X. Next step Dave and Mike at AAM installed an upgraded fuel system and Vortech unit on my X. I Amtraked it down today in the midst of downpours to pick up my baby today. I must say that the ride back was much better than the train (no offense to Amtrak). Instant power! Considering a 5AT with AWD the final dyno #s I think are great (at least for my needs):
Baseline with UTEC without tuning: 208.13 torque, 218 Max total power
Vortech + UTEC + tuning: 266.26 torque, 310.56 Max total power
(on AWD dynojet)
Although the weather absolutetly sucked heading back up to NJ this afternoon, I was able to have some fun and get some driving impressions. It feels like this baby has some serious giddyup now.
Attached is a quick pick I took tonight.
Cheers fellow Xers!

Chico: I spent one day at AAM for the basic Utec install. Everything else took about a week once the parts were available.
TSC: I did experience some slip at launches but I attribute that to the wet conditions plus I'm running Toyo Proxes 4. I can tell more once the weather dries out here.

the vortech s/c in operation does not provide the instant off the line torque like the stillen s/c would - so no barking all the tires. The vortechs are good in the mid-high rpm range, whereas the Stillen or roots blowers are great in that they produce their power in the low to mid range of the powerband. If you have a rwd or fwd drive car, and you are having traction problems off the line now, most likely a roots blower will make it worse - a vortech is great in this situation. With AWD, I would love to have a roots blower and a higher stall torque convertor so I could do away with the stock 2.2 60fts our G's have, and get down to 1.7-1.8 or so,

Lol! Yeah, I've surprised a few people so far. Last weekend I tightened up the pulley belt and found the sweet spot in the cog belt so you don't even hear it that much.

How long was the install?
