Windshield rock chips

I have to drive on the highway to get to work everyday, and it seems each week I get a new chip on my windshield due to rocks flying and hitting it! It's so sad since my car is not even 6 months old and it already has a bunch of chips. I've heard of windshield chip repairs. Did a search and did not find anything useful on this. Has anyone tried to have a shop repair their windshield rock chips? Does it actually work? How much did you pay? Thanx.

I feel your pain
I also drive down a section of freeway that big rigs frequent alot (580) here in the Bay Area.

I have had two "chips" fixed but these chips actually winded up spidering out a bit...so I found a company that comes to your work and they patched up the holes/chips. If you look closely at my windshield you can see I have some smaller less noticable chips.

The ones I had repaired winded up costing me about $100 for both. You can still see the chips but they are alot less noticable than before...no more spidering.

Good luck

Here in AZ full glass coverage is almost standard (you have to ask the ins company to remove it). Most of the time the shops do this it turn out fine, once in a while you ca still se the chips. Never had to pay as they always charge the insuance company.

Yea, most insurance companies will waive your deductible if you have the chip filled with epoxy. Because they know replacing the whole windshield is very expensive..

I have one chip that is a little smaller than a dime. When I asked about getting it repaired they said they would drill out the chip and fill in the hole. Is that the standard prcedure?

Here in MA, glass coverage is standard...if you get a chip/crack that's bad, you get a new windshield replaced for free! And there's no deductible nor is there an increase in your insurance premium. So far, so good (no big chips)...but I do have a ton of those small sand sized speckles, that when the sun hits them....it's like a starry night w/ all of the light refraction from the sun....may need to take a hammer to the windshield soon so I can get mine replaced for free .

I got a chip repaired by safelite. (I have no glass coverage) 65 Bucks. Auto part stores may sell DIY kits, but I am not sure I want to screw with that, I think you only get one chance to repair the chip.
Considering Safelite came to my work, the convenience is worth it.
