Poor AM radio reception
Does anyone else have this problem. The AM reception I have in this car is half what I had in other cars. In the morning, I cant even get most of the AM stations, its not until later in the day that they come in better. Does that make any sense whatso ever. Does someone make some sort of an antenna booster? Thanks Maybe this is why soo many people to to XM.

is it just AM? of FM also ? my radio reception was NULL when i turned on my rear defrost. did some reading on here and found out its because of a faulty rear window (which is where the antenna is). braught it to the dealer and they said it was a known problem and they replaced the window under warranty. now my reception is clear as day. i think they said something with it having to do with a bad ground connection. i dont know if this helps you out at all but if the car is still under warranty i'd bring it to them and tell them you want a new rear window put in

AM just sucks anyways. Why not get a DIN kit and install an 8-track player, or balance a record player on the passenger seat for old time's sake?
haha I'm just being an ***...
Speaking of retro though, and a blatant thread-jack... check this out:

Radio Cuts Out
I have a similar problem to those discussed in this thread. My radio (both AM and FM) will simply quit for anywhere from 30 seconds to ten minutes. This usually happens within the first few minutes of driving, and is sometimes preceeded by static and crappy reception. After it decides to come back on, it usually stays on. Very annoying. Do you think this is related to the "back window" problem? I asked a tech at Best Buy who said it's most likely in the radio itself versus the antenna connection. The G35 has 36,500 miles. Do I still have a shot at warranty replacement? Thanks for your help!

Thankfully my am reception is excellent. I stay in south jersey and have no prob getting philly and new york stations. No probs with the fm either.
This is with tinted windows.
You want to talk about poor am reception . Well my wife's s2k has no/zilch/0 reception. It will not even register the close stations.

Not so good.
The only REAL solution is a REAL antenna. Those crappy on glass jobs don't make it. AM is really the worst. Back in the day a good AM antenna (the only radio you had) was over 60 inches tall. Some of the "automatic" antennas were over 72". AM is a LOW frequency and it takes a LONG antenna to receive it properly. The formula for a proper 1/2 wave dipole is 495 / Freq in Megahertz or 495/1.115Mhz(mid point of the AM dial)= 443.9 FEET! The average antenna on most cars is 31" (cut for the FM band) then you put it on sideways (Horizontal polarization) like the G and you have more problems. (Most if not all Broadcast radio is Vertical polarization)
So if you want REAL reception, you are gonna have to cut a hole and put in a good antenna. (yeah right)
