g35 sedan vs. audi a4 1.8 t

I know this is going to come like an insult to all the g35 enthusiasts, but I have to ask. I'm torn between buying an audi a4 1.8t (similar price to the g35 sedan) and a g. I know the g is a superior machine as far as performance, but sometimes the g looks too big for my age. I am 28 years and single with no wife, kids... I do not want to drive a big "family sedan" type car. The audi seems more youthful. Anyway, any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

polo if you deside to get an audi your best bet is to also get a sweater vest and a tennis raquet to go along with your audi. im 23 and drive a g35sedan. ill tell u one thing the g35 is the nicest car ive drivin. thats my taste. trust me you will enjoy driving the g better then a "preppy audi a4".

What about a G coupe or a 350Z? Those are perfect girl catchers for a single guy your age! I know what I'd do if i was 28 with 30 grand + lying around! Forget the Audi - = no chick magnet! a Z would definitely bag you da goods but a G coupe would put you in the leet class!

Polo,

I struggled with the same decision you are currently faced with: Audi A4 or G35.

Well, I can tell you I went with the G35 Sedan and have been very satisfied. First of all, the A4 1.8T just doesn't have enough power: 170 horses in a 4 cyclinder turbo just doesn't compare to 260 horses and a smokin' V6.

Second, bang for your buck definitely puts the G ahead. I can tell you the depreciation on the A4 is astronomical! Also, Audi went cheap on the 1.8T: I mean manual seats in an entry-level luxury car is simply unacceptable!

Finally, the G35 Sedan looks just as good (if not better) than the new A4. I have received many compliments, and not one person has referred to our new G as "family oriented". BTW, I am 29, and married with no kids.

It is a great car. If you really want an Audi and can afford the price, go with 3.0 litre A4.

Good luck.

Can't fault your taste- I love Audi...I'm single (had to stop seeing that girl that made me take that quiz) and 25 and I don't feel like I'm in a family sedan...The Coupe is a good option though...If you go Audi I won't hate- always liked them...

I have a G35 sedan and test drove both A4 1.8T and 3.0. My advice make sure you run the G35 sedan on the highway above 70... I had the chance to do that with the A4 but not with the G35...my mistake ... if you do that I am sure you will be buying the Audi... go with the 3.0 though the 1.8T is a dog in my op.

So, alderran you wish you had gotten the A4 instead, eh? What has your experience been with the G at speeds above 70? Too smooth for ya?

Re: g35 sedan vs. audi a4 1.8 t

Drove my sedan up to 110 mph. on a back country road with no
traffic one morning after I bought it. Rock solid and smooth.
Backed down because driving that fast is illegal and a little
scarey. The G felt very comfortable at 110, and also felt like it
would easily go 140.

Re: g35 sedan vs. audi a4 1.8 t

I have driven my car and 4 different loaners and they all have a slight vibration (mine was worse but now it's the same) after 60 mph. None of them were rock solid smooth... so I wonder about the people who say it's smooth maybe you have a higher tolerance for a slight vibration. Or maybe it's only the non-sport suspension one's that vibrate.

It's not like I hate this car or anything. And no I don't wish I got an A4... probably would rather have an IS300. The A4 is the same thing as a Passat so why not just save some $$$ and get the Passat?

I am waiting to see if my wife can learn how to drive and get a drivers license... if so she's getting the G35... if not I'll trade it in for something with a manual transmission... but I wouldn't consider another G35 sedan and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Re: g35 sedan vs. audi a4 1.8 t

the only excuse for buying an Audi is getting the R$4 or the R$6

As for the ride at speeds above 60/70 mph, I just got into work at an avg of....let's just say "enough over 70". Actually, as I was driving I was shocked that I was going so fast. I certainly had no complaints.

I have always been a sedan man...with or without kids. We looked at the Audi's, but you get WAY MORE car from Infiniti. (and Audi's nav system outright sucks).

buy the coupe! can't compare audi to g35 unless you put the 3.0 engine in the audi. still a front wheel drive car. why would you want a front wheel drive car?

Re: g35 sedan vs. audi a4 1.8 t

I see alot of honesty on this board both good and bad. My bads for G: titanium interior can scratch easy, brakes are to grabby at lower city driving, stock tires aren't great.

My goods are way too long to list. I do not understand what you mean by driving over 70 is rough. I literally just got into work and cruised between 80-100 the whole way to work on a great stretch of smooth highway with some traffic. I get absolutely no vibration, handles amazing at these speeds, shifts lanes beautifully. My previous car was 1997 328i. It all but fell apart on me. Loved the beemer, but unreliable and doesn't cruise like the G at highway speeds.

I have a sport suspension if you were wondering.

Re: g35 sedan vs. audi a4 1.8 t

One thing to keep in mind about the Audi 1.8; it's extremely tuneable. Super Tuner TV did a mod on one where they added a new turbo exhaust manifold, downpipe, reworked the stock turbo, and did something to the ECU (can't remember if they re-programmed it or added a piggyback). Anyway $2,500 later they were making 250 whp, (and that was with the drivetrain losses of AWD). End result is likely to be pretty darn quick, but who knows how long it would stay together. BTW, Turbonetics supplied the parts, so it should be pretty reliable. I wish the G was that easy to mod for increased HP.
