Unhappy 1st (and hopefully last) accident

Last night I backed my car up and hit a parked car. How idiotic is that? I was careless and in a hurry and didn't really look behind me when I backed up. This was at my house (I live in a townhouse development with parking lots). Normally there aren't any cars in the spots behind me so I didn't really take the time to look. The car is ot even a month old and I jacked it up. I was so pissed at myself. Damage to the G is signifcant, but the other car (97-98 Camry) wasn't too bad. I talked to the owner today and I don't think he is going to bother to fix it. He said he felt bad for my car and that his is an old car. Anyway, it's going into the shop next Thurs. for about 4-5 days. Here are some pics:

the Camry

now brace yourself

the G

Bottle of touch-up paint and she is good as new.

Your ins. company should still pay to fix that other guys car--its the right thing to do, dude.

Heh I had my first accident type of thing on Saturday... I was driving through a gas station and the gas station gasline covers were not flush w/ the asphalt as they normally are, but at this gas-station they were on top of a BUMP that was like 6" higher then the ground and I did not realize it so I was driving and BAM it pwned up the car underneath... $3500 in damage, insurance paying for $2500 since i have a 1k deductable... I like low rates, the $1k isn't hurting me much so Its all good. I was so glad there was no body damage!

Anyways that doesn't look too bad, and also yeah your insurance should still pay to fix that guys car...

Yeah I know, but it's up to him if he wants to fix it. I mean I can't force him if he doesn't care. I left a note on his car after the incident for him to check out his car and call me. I ran into him today in the parking lot and that's when he told me he might not bother. I told him whatever he decides and that I already notified my insurance company and they would pay for his damages.

Damage is worse than it looks in the pictures. It is also dented and wrinkled in, not just scratched up. The body shop gave me a rough estimate of $1800-2500.

i dunno if touchup paint is gonna fix that. the damage on your quarter panel is gonna cost you to fix. take it to a good body shop or two just for a quote. i think it's gonna be pretty pricey to fix, probably a few thousand.

90% of the damage to that camry looks buffable except where the bumper meets the rear quarter panel and got "peeled". I bet a lot of that paint damage will buff out though. Treat the guy to a top notch detail

your G on the other hand needs immediate medical attention stat.

Sounds like a good idea. If he doesn't care to get it fixed, I'll offer to get it detailed.

G is going "under the knife" next Thurs.

if u wanna feel better i'll post pics of my accident later

i was rear ended for 15K dmg on December 18, 2005 (that date makes me shudder). my friend was driving my car, to boot, though it wasn't his fault at all.

it's still in the body shop... lmao

oh btw, it was my second in 2 months. and i just got my car back from the 1st accident. that first one was 13K dmg on front left side. oh yeah, that one wasn't my fault either.

i prolly have the worst luck on these forums...

Man, that is some bad luck, but at least they weren't your fault. They should have totalled the car the second time around.

I may give you a run for you money on luck, though. I pretty much have a little something every year...usually my fault. I definitely got my money's worth from my insurance. I think they've paid out more than I've paid in. It's not something I'm proud of, though. Kinda embarrassing.

The only damage to my car, so far, is my fault. I had my garage door open, with a pet carrier next to my car a little high. Wind blew the carrier into the car. The metal part scratched the car.

I had some touchup paint applied, mainly to prevent rust, but it is noticable when the car is clean.

I think it just makes the G look a little meaner and other cars will keep a little further away if they think yours will bite. Performance or pretty, take your pick.
