Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

Cato,

I have pretty much identical setup as yours, Grounding kit, 350Z duct, Stillin CAI. The things I am considering are:
1. Crawford Plenum Intake ($500)
2. Stillen or Borla cat back which ever comes out first. (~$700-800?)
3. ECU upgrade when it's out. ~$600

I am curious what other upgrades are available. And oh yea, I love my G. Runs like a dream..

Stillen dual catback exhaust (when it comes out)
Crawford Performance Plenum (considering)

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

cato,
I had to work and install my hi-flow box right on top the engine as the table without disconnecting the MAS.
So far, It feels like the gap between city and Highway mpg gotten bigger.

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

I am a little confused. I thought the Hi-Flow box was different than a CAI. I like the idea of the Hi-Flow box because of the concerns with the CAI (water getting in, etc.)
cato-
Which exactly did you install, or am I completely wrong. Please educate...

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

Cato, congrats and welcome to the club! I knew you would not be disappointed . The MAS was the hardest part of the install (did not want to break it) then the bottom screw that holds the box down. With a little patience, the MAS comes right off. I gets even better with an exhaust. You must come down to Austin so we can compare mods. I will be entering my G in the 5th Annual Datsun/Nissan Auto Show on Sept 20th in Round Rock.

Bone Daddy, above is a shot of my setup.

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

Bonedaddy,

mbarrad's pics are exactly what I installed. The stock box is actaully
a CAI. (cold air intake) Stillen has just added their HI-FLOW intake
conical K&N filter to a similar design. I can't see where the Stillen
box is actually better than the stock, but you can't add the conical
Hi-Flow K&N to the stock box. Stillen calls it their Hi Flow Airbox.
It is actually a CAI replacement for the stock CAI. Whatever you call
it, it really sings, especially when coupled with the 350Z intake
duct. I'm finding it difficult to keep off the throttle. My 12 year old
daughter was with me yesterday when I showed it off for her,
she loves it too! It is just AWESOME!

mbarrad,

Please more details about the Round Rock event. Would like

up and see my parents in Austin.

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

nuttyprof,

Don't know exactly what the K&N Typhoon is, but I suspect it
is some sort of air intake? The Stillen and your K&N Typhoon
are probably mutually exclusive? You can have one, but not the other.
BTW, Stillen claims 11 hp for the sedan with their HI-Flow box.

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

Okay, here are a couple more:
What is MAS? I am not real mechanically experienced (tools included), so difficulties make me a little nervous.
Is there any concern with the box taking in water (like the Injen)? Since it is located where the stock box was, I am guessing there should be no issues?

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

BoneDaddy,

MAS refers to "Mass Air Sensor". It is located on the pipe connected
to the back of the air intake box, between the box and the bellows.
It measures the ammount of air entering the intake. Then it tells the
computer and it adjusts the air/fuel mix accordingly. The Stillen
Hi-Flow box should have NO problems like the Injen does.

Hope this helps!

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

Yes, the K&N Typhoon is an intake system. the stillen intake uses a K&N cone-type filter and so does mine. for clarification, here are some pictures of my intake. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4289787515 check it out and tell me what you think. im getting an extra 9 hp. so maybe if i add the stillen high flow box, i might get an extra couple hp. maybe.
also, anyone ever use a tornado? its at www.tornadoair.com it gives better gas mileage, but does it give a hp increase too? can it be used with an aftermarket intake? very interesting product indeed. thanks guys.

Re: Stillen HiFlow air box today!

The tornado is a waste of money. It acts as nothing other than a restriction in the intnake. If you have a smooth surfaced induction pipe (such as the 350Z), that will get you MUCH further than a metal/plastic POS stuck in there. I have seen dyno tests with this POS in their intakes, and it has actually shown a loss of HP. It's just a gimmick.
