Just a bad day? (parts falling off)

Yesterday was just one of those days. Got up at oh-dark 30 and open the driver-passenger door to put my backpack in the rear. Upon closing the door, my finger slip off the door frame and caught that little black plastic piece on the (door open) left bottom corner. It's the curved "boomerang" piece the fits over the weather stripping and holds it in place.

Snapped it back on - crisis averted.

===

End of work day, so now I decide that I am going to throw my backpack in the trunk. Opened the trunk, and when it opened all the way (not slamming open, mind you), the little black cup/grip for closing the trunk fell off and went for a walk under the car. Got a sneer from some guy walking out of the office behind me (pfft!)

Snapped it back in - crisis averted.

++++
So, anyone else noticing bits falling off their G? Or was it just the Santa Ana winds blowing?

Re: Just a bad day? (parts falling off)

My trunk grab handle completely broke off. The little plastic pieces that held it in place broke and are now permanently rattling around inside my trunk lid. The dealer installed a second handle, but other than that, I haven’t had anything else break.

Re: Just a bad day? (parts falling off)

When I got my car (it only had 10 miles on it) it came with the trunk handle laying on the floor of the trunk. Upon inspection I noticed that the dealer tired to "pull one over me" he had used black electrical tape to put the peices together and tried to make it stick on the trunk!! I got them to replace it and have been fine since.

The only thing that concerns me about falling off, is i noticed that on the driverside top of the winshield there seems to be some extra plastic hanging off.....

I didn't know it was held on with little pieces... mine's glued to the trunk, literally. It came off, but I pushed it back on. No problem since. It came off when it was literally 100+ out in Florida and my black car had been sitting outside for two days... my guess it the adhesive doesn't like those conditions.

Re: Just a bad day? (parts falling off)

You’re probably right about the heat affecting the grab handle. My G’s black and is parked outside in the AZ sun a couple of days a week. I think the handle fell off right around the beginning of summer. The only reason I think there’s some kind of plastic pieces holding it in place is because my trunk lid began rattling a day or two before I found the handle sitting in my trunk. I tried to put it back in, but there was nothing to hold it in place. The dealer fixed it a month ago and it’s been fine ever since.

Hopefully they didn’t use electrical tape!

Maybe that's why the '03.5's don't have trunk grab handles anymore...

The grab handle that fell off my car is the interior trunk handle (I have the 03.5 sedan). Sorry if I didn’t make that clear.

Same here-- I've got an 03.5. We're talking about the plastic thing under the trunk lid that says "pull" that you hold to close it. My mom always closes her FX trunk with the palm of her hand, not the handles. Drives me INSANE.

SO!!!! That's what's rattling around in my trunk lid now! That was driving me crazy this AM when I opened the trunk to stick my bag in. Hmmmm - should I make the dealer get the bits out?

I was going to ask the dealer to, but I forgot to mention it when I had them replace the grab handle. So I think it’s worth a shot, please the rest of us know how it goes!

Dammit!

I couldn't figure out what "boomerang" piece you were referring to, so I tried duplicating your actions and lo and behold I heard the sound of plastic breaking!

Lucky for me it was only the sound of the plastic "snapping" over the "clips" and nothing broke... snapped back on as you said...whew!

I installed my trunk lid spoiler and had to remove and replace the inner trunk handle many times, but it doesn't seem to have been weakened or cracked at any time, it never falls out. Guess I must be lucky....
