G35 Sedan 6mt - Dealer Issues. Pl advise
Hi,
Have put my money down for a G35 sedan 6mt with a Dealer in New Jersey. The dealer originally said that the car (black on Black, Prem, Nav, Aero) is with them when i put my money down (the online dealer inventory system on infiniti.com said so too). When i visited them the next day, they said the car has to be located and brought from another dealer. Now, they say that the car would be driven by somebody from the other dealer and not flat-bedded and that the car would already have 120 miles on it when i take delivery.
I am very frustrated with this. To me a car with 120 miles on it is not a new one really!. Should i cancel the deal and wait for a made to order car (there are not many cars coming in the next month with this spec to this area) or you think 120 miles wont make a big difference and that i am being too picky?
Has anyone else had a similar experience? What do you advise.
Thanks in advance.

I would be frustrated and would back-out, or ask for something to compensate. Mine had 55 miles on it (was already at my dealer, but was previously transferred). I wonder all the time about the teenager who was probably redlining it the entire 50 miles.
You could also ask to ride with the person transferring, or follow in your car (let the driver know you are following so they have to take it easy).

The fact that they misrepresented the status of the car bugs me more than the 120 miles, and I'd be annoyed.
Do you know what dealer it's coming from? Go buy directly from them, and put the 120 miles on it yourself driving it home.

50 miles would worry me, because it was probably used for a test car... and I know how I treated test cars...
My car had to come in from St.Louis, which BUGGED me. But, I have no choice and needed the car ASAP. When I got it, it had over a hundred miles on t, BUT the Nav Trip computer had been on ever since it had been started the first time, so I could see the fuel economy, average speed, etc. on it. It was getting ~24 which means the guy driving it didn't floor ir and drive it like a bat-out-of-hell, and the trip distance was what I'd calculated between the two dealerships, plus 7 miles.
Some people do this for a living-- literally break in cars on these trips. Some people do it as a summer job, literally BREAK cars on these trips. The person who got my car ended up being my personal service technician, and knowing this guy, he treated it with kid gloves. I talked to him and he said "Vary the RPMs, don't put cruice control on, don't punch the gas" etc. when I inquired about breaking it in, so I have confidence in him.
Did they say "We have it on the lot", or did they say "We can have it for you on the lot"? The's a big difference between those two. If they said they had it, screw em, they lied. I always ask for the VIN and mileage of the car anyway, because my insurance co. asks for it, and I call them up before I pick up the car. If they read you a bad mileage, deal's off. You're supposed to sign a sheet that says you confirm the odometer reading.

yeah 120 and some unknown person driving it for that long wouldn't feel new to me either. i'd see if you could get the car from that "other dealer" yourself instead of going through your current one b/c they sound really shady.
my dealer said the car was with them and when i got it, the car had only 3.8 miles on it. in my opinion, you need to be able to trust your dealer and have them stick to their word.

Tell them to deliver it by car carrier, and you won't accept it if over 20 miles are on the odometer.
I had my previous car delivered over 350 miles at no charge.
They clipped a telephone pole with my car on the trailer, but that's another story.

don't do it, reward a dealer that treats you good and punish those that screw you, that's the only way you can get them to learn

email other dealers in the area. Don't buy a car with 120 miles on it. My dealer (Tustin) originally told me it was going to be flat-beaded in from the valley.
Turns out they picked it up and drove it in from Mission Viejo. the mileage was about right, 32...but i did not appreciate their story "changing". Had I known, I would have gone to MV. Do your homework and get a deal that gives you the warm and fuzzies. Don't get it just to "get it". Every dealer gets cars every month. You don't.

My car came through another dealer--and when I made the deal and knew it was being delivered somewhere else and had to come from there (or I would have to wait three extra months) I was explicit in asking how the car would arrive and what the mileage would be. They told me flatbed, and it was.
The car had 2.8 miles on it when I picked it up and it had come from 100 miles away.
It's not uncommon for a car to be driven from one dealer to another when it's within 100 to 150 miles away, but the dealer should be up front about it so you can make an informed decision about what you wanna do. Sounds like this dealer was either making up his story as he went along or lied to you. If you agree to have someone drive the car, it is important to know something about who is driving your car.
Only you can decide what you can live with and whether this is gonna bug you too much. Would driving up to the other dealer to take delivery there give you the most peace of mind?

I take the opposing view..although I understand how you feel before you know it, you will have added another 120 miles and so on and so ! So the first 120 miles is no big deal IF the car has the exact specs you want (loaded) and the PRICE is right. It will be delivered as a NEW car and will have a 70,000 warranty. The 210 miles translates to like 3/1000 of 1 percent of the coverage ??? Or something insignicant. With that said, if the price is not excellent , why not wait for the 04 that will come standard with a limited slip rear axle. Something I dearly miss on mine.

My dealer offered me my car with 50 miles on it, I told him after what I just did to that car, you must be crazy for me to take it...I left and they found me a car with 5 miles on it. Its comming towards the end of the year...its getting nearer for them to meet thier quotas...try to be patient with this and you'll be happer at the end. GL
